Re: 2010 Redskins Final Cutdown
GTripp. I got 2 options for you. Max Jean Gilles from the eagles and Justin Hartwig from the Steelers were both cut today.
As far as a LB why not look at Derek Burgess from the Pats? A couple of quality 2nd tier guys who could help improve this team.

Re: 2010 Redskins Final Cutdown
Can someone tell me why Daryl Young, Roydell Williams, Will Montgomery, and Byron Westbrook all made the team, and Terrance Austin, Edwin Williams, and Tyrone Carter didn't make the team?

Re: 2010 Redskins Final Cutdown
I think everyone is baffled when it comes to Austin, and now, with Will Mont. and Westbrook.
The end result it seems = pretty much the same as last year, except we got CHEAP old players instead of overpayed mercs, and didn't waste Dans money. I want to believe that this team is vastly different, but noticing that our O-Line is only slightly improved (just the starters) over last year, and the backups could be even worse, I wonder where all of that competition went to. Why the geriatric WR's, and why release a young WR who did everything he was supposed to do except get drafted in the second round in the draft? (Bad, BAD Terrance *smacks him on the fingers*) DT's draft position protects him, and we let this playmaker go, or at least give other teams a real shot at snagging him.(I'll bet the Rams and the Bucs are looking at him, maybe even the vikes....) ****in' flawless............****in' flawless...... With the injuries to McNabb, our WR's and our complete lack of OLine depth, and lets not get into Mr. Botched Banks or HB Dull Blades making the team, is anyone else worried about this season? I know people will say, awwww, DMac is fine, he is starting week one, don't worry.........But an injury to his leg already......and you think our line is gonna be any different in protection for the rest of the year? If that preseason hit put him into a walking boot, then he better get ready to contact the sales reps for HoverRound........ |

Montgomery made the team because he can play center, which seems like a really terrible reason. Its no secret that all coaches have favorites, but just to put it in perspective: if we had kept just eight OLmen last year, Will Montgomery wouldn't have made that team. And that team was terrible up front.

Re: 2010 Redskins Final Cutdown
Just about everyone agrees about Austin but, there's no need to be upset unless he doesn't clear waivers. You have to have confidence that Montgomery beat out Edwin Williams, Cook, and, Rinehart. Lichtenstiger swings C too. Roydell Williams played well and he's under 30. Only Moss and Galloway are over right? My only knock on Westbrook is that ugly number 34 but, CB depth is questionable talent wise.

Re: 2010 Redskins Final Cutdown
Honestly,I love our roster...
If I had to make a move...it would be to cut/trade R.Williams and get a sure #2 or #3 WR on the roster... For example..T.J. hushmazilly Then have a WR core of Moss,T.J.,Galloway,Armstrong and Banks That would be a pretty darn good WR core...imo With Austin on the practice squad in case of a bad injury... But I do believe,we need to find a way to replace R.Williams.. I don't think he's a bad receiver,I just think we could significantly upgrade the WR position. banks has way too much potential to be replaced here and is very young.. I think R.Williams is what...29? But the 5 I have are very fast/quick not to mention the 2 studs in cooley and davis... This is the move I'm hoping we make people... be it williams for T.J.....or whoever... Other than that! I love the roster...

Re: 2010 Redskins Final Cutdown
This is only the 53 man roster for now. If I were R. Williams, D. Young, Westbrook, Banks, Paulsen, Riley, Barnes I wouldn't get to comfortable.
Lot of players on the market. I would think there are moves coming.

Re: 2010 Redskins Final Cutdown
As a sign of the roster turnover and how bad our roster was at the end of the season last year, of the 10 players released in March (Randy Thomas, Rock, Randle-El, Betts, Griffin, Smoot, Collins, Mason, E. Williams, Stolinsky) only 3 are on other teams final rosters (Randle-El in Pittsburgh, Rock in Oakland and Collins in Chicago) and none have significant roles.

Re: 2010 Redskins Final Cutdown
CAN NOT believe they cut Austin over Banks. Is he going to the practice squad? How can any of the coaches actually trust Banks? He's put the ball on the ground way too much and for that alone he shouldn't have made the team. I know he's made some nice plays but 5'7 145lbs guys don't make it in the NFL.

Also can someone tell me why these guys have such a hard on for Beck? Just cause he played in a similar system in college? Bartel clearly out played him. Not sure what they're thinking there.

Re: 2010 Redskins Final Cutdown
I also don't think we need to go out and get TJ Housh. Outside of Moss it looks like they're going to go with a WR by committiee approach and I kinda like that. Keeps everyone fresh and hopefully one or two guys will emerge.

Re: 2010 Redskins Final Cutdown
Because Skinfan...
Not only is banks a very dangerous return man (good and bad) but is probably the biggest homerun threat on the team. Plus, what doesn't get mentioned either,is Austin was our leading receiver in the preseason with 10 catches for 146 yards & 1 TD.....Did you guys know that Banks was #2 with 8 catches for 129 yards? The guy may be small, but he can play. He's not just some small fast kid. Yes,he does need to work on holding on to the football, but this can & will be corrected I believe. But everytime watching this kid,I always felt he could take every return to the house when touching the football. Hell...that damn bubble screen looked like it was going for 70...lol

Re: 2010 Redskins Final Cutdown
You guys act like you're the ones dissecting game and practice tape; and at the facility holding practices with these guys day in and day out.
Look, cutting and trading players isn't an exact science and every coach blows one here and there, but on the whole I'm 100% confident that our staff made the right roster decisions. I mean, did Justin Tryon really have a definitive edge over the players that we decided to keep this year? I didn't think so, unless you guys were watching a different Tryon. He was an average nickel guy, in my opinion. Again, my opinion. I think you can make an argument against Westbrook, but on the other hand he's been pretty solid on teams since the day he got here. And now that Rock is no longer here, we need a few guys flying to the ball on kick-offs and punts. As Pain pointed out most of the guys we were whining about just five months ago aren't even in the NFL right now. Ladell Betts could do no wrong around here, but he couldn't even make the running back starved New Orleans Saints. Colt Brennen, lord have mercy! The list goes on and on. I think the 53 we see today probably won't be the same 53 that suits up for Dallas; Terrence Austin included. |
