Re: 2011 Redskins Free Agents Rumors and Reports-Part 3
I wanted to answer the question: what has our money gotten us so far? We've spent more than $50 million in free agency.
I went to my FA Spreadsheet and to the 79 scale to see what kind of quality we've brought back. These rankings were made before FA opened (with the exception of players acquired in trades, like Gaffney), and do not consider our scheme. Just the quality of player. Basically, no pro or anti Redskins bias here. Barry Cofield 89 Josh Wilson 85 Stephen Bowen 83 Santana Moss 83 Chris Chester 79 Jabar Gaffney 79 Sav Rocca 79 Donte Stallworth 77 Kellen Clemens 75 Our $50 million brought us one potential star (who doesn't have an obvious place in our scheme), a young above average corner, two average players in Bowen and Moss, three guys who are fringy starters, but may be so according to need, and some depth in Stallworth and Clemens. Is that worth $50 million? In 2009, Vinny got one potential star and a young, average corner for that much money. It's not that dissimilar to what we have here, except in that we have more holes now. In 2004, we seemingly did a lot better than this with less cap room: Springs, Washington, Brunell, Griffin, Ray Brown, Portis, etc. That FA class put a core of talent in place for the next five years. I don't know if this one will do the same.
