Re: Tripoli About to be Taken Over by Rebels
Agree, this is a lot different from what happened in Egypt. The opposition seems less organized and has shown no problem spilling blood. This could get really ugly if the UN, Italy, France etc. doesnt get a security force in there. Lotta loyalist in Tripoli and Tripoli is a big city. Gaddafi's resistence not to leave is gonna end up costing alot of lives in that country.

I think that is the idea, get Western boots on the ground to physically take over the nation ala Afghanistan and dictate by setting up a puppet regime. Those loyalists aren't going away, and a lot of Libyans will join them if the new regime is forced to take IMF/ World Bank dictates and end the subsidies and the nice check they get from the oil profits. Oil profits that will now go mostly to BP and out of the country, where before most of the profits stayed in Libya. Many Libyans might be rejoicing now, but in 5-10 years they will be looking back at the good ole days of Qadaffi. Food prices and gas prices are really going to rise for those people. I mean 15 cents for a loaf of bread, free housing for newlyweds, free college and a car, etc. Cheap utilities, that will no doubt be forced by the IMF/World Bank to be privatized for profit, which is what all this crap is about. |
