Re: Offseason Power Rankings - # 29
What really matters, and what's not shown in this "power ranking" thing, is what I'll call the 3 C's= Coaching, Chemistry, and Continuity. For the first time in a long time, I feel good about these things. And, remember: we usually get over-ranked in these things in the offseason because of our wild, splashy offseason moves.
Here's what we did this offseason, Irish: we improved the O-line (Rabach, Jansen's return), we altered our receiving corps (Patten, Moss), we didn't break the bank on anyone, even though we lost some good players in Pierce and Smoot, and we drafted a CB replacement, some depth at LB and FB/H-back, and we got a QB prospect (Brunell's replacement, and insurance for Ramsey). Nothing here is on paper an upgrade, I'll admit, except Rabach. ANd given that we were 6-10, why should we move up in the polls (which are pretty subjective: what IS a power ranking???). BUt that's not what's going to matter. It's the three C's, the big one being coaching. If GIbbs gets it going on offense, we'll be good--a decent shot at a wild-card, is my bet. If not, it aint gonna happen, and all the flashy signings wouldn't change a thing.

Re: Offseason Power Rankings - # 29
I see parallels between us and last year Chargers team anyway. They fought their way to a 12-4 record with a strong defense, a dominant tailback, less than amazing receivers and a quarterback revitalized after everyone wrote him off in favor for the incoming rookie.
Now Clinton Portis isn't exactly Tomlinson (though you have to think he'll score more than 5 touchdowns this year) and Chris Cooley, though productive, is no Antonio Gates. But our defense is stronger I'd say, and I doubt many would argue that Gibbs is a superior coach to Schottenheimer. Now if Ramsey can just have himself a Brees 2004 season, we might be in business.

Sorry Matty, I confused you with Redskins Rat.
Why is it silly to rank teams now? With that logic it would be silly to ever rank teams (or talka about what the future holds) because nobody has any idea who will play, be injured, etc, no matter what time of the season it is. |

Re: Offseason Power Rankings - # 29
who cares. it's may. they judge us every year, and because we didn't make great strides in the offseason to improve a losing record, they are assuming that we are gonna suck again this year. im sure the years before this one we were ranked high in may power rankings mainly because of all the people we picked up in the offseason.

Re: Offseason Power Rankings - # 29
We barely improved the O-line...We still have questionable depth there.
We replaced Smoot with a question mark that may take a couple years to develop. We replaced Pierce. We still have questions at QB. We have questions at WR. If Sean Taylor, Cooley, Nowland, Wilson and Molinaro have a soph slump and Dockery, Ray Brown, Jansen, all the new LB's and LA cant or dont perform our offense and defense could be alot worse. We have too many questions for a good ranking.

Re: Offseason Power Rankings - # 29
last year we fixed a leaky defense, this year we'll fix crappy special teams... EVERY move this offseason has basically been for special teams (even rodgers is expected to play some there), so if we've got 2/3rds of our team in the top 5, we should be alright... on offense we got a better oline by 2 parts and better deep threats to help portis get some space (hopefully)... i dont think our yardage is going to go way up (except for ramsey replacing brunell), but there should be less 8-9 in the box plays against us.

If our defense stay in the top, and wins those close games then we'll be a serious contender, but we have to send a message to the NFC east and refuse to lose in our division.

Exactly. Cause when you think about it, isn't this just a draft review by any other name?

Re: Offseason Power Rankings - # 29
It is way too early to determine which teams will be good and which ones are gonna do bad. These power rankings are based on offseason acquisitions. I agree the patriots are the top of the food chain. Cowgirls at 12? I don't think so! I think we should be way higher than 29. Just because we lost 2 starters on D dosen't mean that we are gonna suck this year. Alot of these "experts" don't really know what they are talking about anyway. All we need to do is turn up the offense and we are serious contenders in the NFC and the Superbowl. I don't think that it will be a problem for coach Gibbs to do that. We played the Eagals for 7 1/2 quarters and they are considered the cream of the crop in the NFC. Like I've been saying we don't have to get that much better to contend in the NFC. I like the fact that people are underestimating our team. So, everybody keep their hope and their faith alive and we will do fine this year. Much better than last year.

Are we really having a serious discussion about the Skins' ranking in a poll IN MAY?
