This is how things are going to be done. So you can bitch and moan all you want that our 7th round rookie OL got burned on a sack in his second career start. But I'm not going to make wholesale changes because you're so effing impatient."
The Caps made as high stakes a move as the Redskins have ever made in signing Jaromir Jagr to, I believe, the biggest contract in NHL history. And he was a colossal failure. But does anyone talk about that? No, yet even when the Redskins were making playoff runs in 05 and 07 fans couldn't let go of 5 to 10 year old FA moves.
There's also no farm system in the NFL. Redskins can't draft Kevin Barnes and let him play several games a year against other professionals in Hershey, PA for a few years before calling him up.
I know Leonsis, I like Leonsis. I think he's done a great job in turning the Caps around (though they still fail tremendously come playoff time). But I just don't think it's so simple as to say what works for the Caps works for the Redskins.

I can see alot of what your saying, and don't necessarily agree. What I see is apples to apples is not concerned with the fans, but with building a winning team. I think leonsis thought more about that than anything, and I think the formula is the same. The draft, getting younger, and hiring the right personnel to scout and rebuild your team. I think that's how you become a good team. The more picks you have, the more chance you have at gaining quality players, the higher the picks you have, the more chance you have at getting the players you desire. I think that its basic statistics, and although there might be some differences, I think the essence of building a non-competitive hockey/football team into a competitive one is apples to apples.
