Everyone is talking about this pressure they are facing just playing the lions. Even if they win this game they won't "win" this game.

The Skins have to beat the lions by at least 20 points to "win" this game and our offense isn't ready to put that much up on the board right now, so technically this game is not winnable.


All of this pressure is not going to get resolved after Sunday's game against the lions. People will just say you were supposed to beat them if we win on Sunday.

Not sure what's so nice about this article, if anything I'm wondering if maybe the fans and media need to chill out a bit and back off. At this point we could be doing more harm than good.

Agreed Matty. Notice the irony of the article: the article is a microscopic media examination of the Redskins which hints that a problem may be media pressure on the players because "the team operates under a strong media microscope."

We fans need to chill out and let 'em play.

I have felt that way for a long time now. This team has to operate under a giant microscope where every little thing is so highly scrutinized.

Case in point....Last year when Fred Davis overslept, it was reported in the media repeatedly for more than three weeks running. I remember a time when such a tribual ordeal would have been buried in an in-between colum of very fine print virtually overlooked. This new age of 24/7 rhetoric is a monster.

Back in the 80s and even the 90s we might not have even heard about it. The media/fan frenzy for constant info really is pretty ridiculous these days.

I believe Dan Hellie said it best as a guest on SportsTalk 980 - media outlets in this town that reduce their coverage of the Skins always see a subsequent slip in their ratings. Washington devotes more coverage to the Skins than arguably any other NFL city does for their team.

this is exactly it- its virtually a lose lose situation...yet the skins organization put themselves in this position. They price, market and sell themselves as an ELITE team with ELITE talent. Why is it unreasonable for us (as fans) to expect to see elite results? For over a decade now, they've paraded mediocre team after mediocre team in front of us all while trumpeting the same song and dance "we have the talent! we just need to execute!" When is enough, enough? when will it be acceptable for fans to demand progress? Do you get what I'm saying? Its not that we aren't patient, its just that after a decade of treading water, we are tired- how long before we drown?

One of the players on the team that isn’t the problem came out in defense of the organization on Wednesday. Chris Cooley posted this on the his blog:

Alright, I’ve spent the last two days listening to never ending gripe about how terrible the Washington Redskins are. Our coaching is dreadful. Zorn is on the hot seat. Our play calling is outright awful. Anyone can call better red zone plays. Our team is a bunch of overpaid bums. First of all we lost to an outstanding Giants team in New York. Bummer, yes, but not the end of the world. Secondly, we actually won the Rams game. A win for us is like a Van Gogh, it doesn’t matter if it’s pretty, it’s having it. Now, of course it’s obvious that we didn’t score tons of points, but by no means were we terrible. I agree. It's week 3 and we are 1 and 1. A nice win and we'll be a good team. The media and some fans are doing more harm than good.

The Redskins have already proven they can move the ball up and down the field. Sustaining drives don't seem to be a problem. The problem is, the offense seems to freeze inside the 20. Zorn needs to think about what could work, compared to what has been done. IMO, and my opinion only, that means Chris Cooley, Malcolm Kelly, and Marko Mitchell in and on the field inside the ten yard line. Kelly and Mitchell are both 6'4" which means one, if not both, will be mismatched.

Great idea PSF. Zorn should not hesitate to make this change....
