Yogi Berra on the Washington Redskins...

It's deja vu all over again...

For the last two years - - and particularly last year - - the Redskins defense found ways to lose games by giving up "the big play" or "the big drive" in the fourth quarter. But this year, it was Jim Haslett to the rescue... His new and aggressive defense wouold never allow that to happen - - even with much the same players on the defensive side of the ball.

Well, the defense did all it could to lose the Dallas game in Week 1 until Alex Barron saved them from themselves. Remember, the Cowboys had a receiver standing in the end zone with a completed pass that would have tied the game with less than 10 seconds to play. {Odds they would have missed the PAT is about 1 in 100.] That play with the defense came on the end of a drive down the field of something more than 10 yards with the defense doing nothing memorable to stop the drive.

This week the defense had a 17-point lead with 16 minutes to play. To give up 17 points in 16 minutes means you would be giving up 64 points per game. Do that math for yourself if you think that's wrong. But the Redskins' defense did just that.

So, is Haslett the dumbest doofus on the planet - - or are there significant holes on the defensive roster?

My vote is for holes on the defensive roster.

Oh, and by the way, one of the holes on the defensive roster this week was NOT "The 42-Million Dollar Man". He was inactive because of an ankle injury. Bet that increases his "trade value"...
