One thing is for sure....L.Davis getting more then all of the guards this week from the Cowboys is a joke!!! But Davis is getting the last laught!!! Great stuff!!! I have said, his contract was too much, no doubt. What I am saying is, if we would have approached this earlier we could have done something prior to him being on the market. He contended he wanted to stay here, the rest of his teammates wanted him here. He would have been a fool to walk away from what the bills offered. But I just think we should have sured up the O-line. I dont get not resigning him because he wasn't our best lineman? our offensive line was the only thing that was good!! it was dominant in fact!! and all 5 of them contributed. I dont care if he was the best or 5 best. the fact is THAT oline created running lanes trucks could drive through and only yielded 19 sacks. 3rd best. If you have something that good, why not try and keep it together. that is all I am saying about it.

you saw what happened when you let pieces of the puzzle go on D. from 9th to 31st, now we are having to pay crap loads of money to shore up that side of the ball again. I just have a feeling the oline will not perform as good as it did last year.

You're making a pretty big assumption that he was willing to sign before free agency opened up. A smart agent would have looked at how much money teams out there are going to have available to spend and said "Hey Doc, let's wait. I'll bet I can get you mad money." They were easily in the driver's seat and knew it.

Of course, he has to say he wants to stay because if he didn't get a good offer then his bridge isn't burnt. Same goes with his teammates. He's done nothing for them to say anything but that they would like for him to remain a Redskin.

Just look at what Hutchinson got last year, the bar for guards was set very high and with the cap going up it this year it made complete sense for Dockery to test free agency.

I agree for the most part - his agent earned his money by running the #s & doing due diligence on the market. I hope you're right Matty that the 3 yr. offer was incorrect, it doesn't sound like a Skins deal at all.

you are right. I never looked at it from that way. there has to be a willingness to stay here and get it done. I always feel that if the team wants a certain player to be here, they will be here. Just given the facts of how Danny likes to throw the money around, and not letting players leave with out contracts. But like you said, Dock may have not been so willing. I wonder if his agent was contacted prior to the signing or before, that the bills were going after him and willing to play top dollar? that may fall in lines of tampering, but if it goes un detected, its fair game i guess.

here are a couple of thing that piss me off about this whole Dockery thing : 1) the "FRONT OFFICE" should have locked him up during last year, or in the offseason before he had a chance to even look at other teams offers. They knew he was a FA, but dragged ass during the season.
2) Now, Dockery is not worth 16 million upfront, but 3 yr 12 million is a bit of insult. This organization has a reputation of low balling players, Smoot, pierce, now Dockery. Kills me how you give 10million bonuses out like candy, but low ball people on your team. they just gave a 32 yr old LB 10 million up front, but can give Dock something that is fair. Now, what dock signed for is ending up to be less than what the other O-lineman are signing for. I can't believe they were intertaining the idea of signing Davis if they were not going to give Dockery that money. He ended up signing for more than Dockery. And I dont believe they weren't interested in signing him as the post would spin it today. BS! he wouldn't have been here, plus he said I have to decide on who I want to play for, so the contract offer was all ready there.
3) the O-line was our only bright spot on the team last year. Now we have to fill a hole, a big hole. Again, dock isn't worth the 16 up front, but dont you think if we had tried like crazy during the season last year, early last year, we could have gotten him signed before all this took place. I certainly do. They better work something out w/ Cooley and Taylor before they are in the same situation. I have a feeling Taylor will be the highest paid safety in NFL history and nothing less will keep him.

The reason I say this is your jumping all over the front office for things that you have know idea are true or not and I see this all the time here on this site. We need to wait to hear the facts before we come to any conclusions.

The sentence in that article could mean 12mil guaranteed w/in the first 3 years.
