NFL Network: Bears' Briggs, 31st Pick for Skins' 6th Pick?

You've heard of deals that help both teams involved? Well now you've seen a deal that sucks for both sides!

There's no guarentee the Bears will accept. They may save us from our momentary lapse of reason.

The problem is we don't have any other picks until round 5 -- and there will not be any defensive linemen at that late stage to help where we need it most. This year's draft is deep at DL, but not that deep. If we take this deal and get the 31st pick, we won't have any bargaining power to trade down -- so there definitely won't be anything else "in the works" if this happens.

Teams ran all over us at the defensive line first -- so it follows that we need to address the front four first. Briggs won't matter at that point.


I should have been more clear. "Later in the draft" i meant the 31st pick for the DL. something in the works, Springs being dealt pick or player, Betts, Portis being dealt for picks. A lot of rumors fly about 1 of our RB's getting dealt on draft day. Or, it could just be one of those players you just can't pass up on, for basically nothing. WE ARE GETTING A 26 YEAR OLD STUD, FOR NOTHING! WE STILL GET TO KEEP A 1st ROUND PICK. I just can't see whats wrong with that. We are not losing picks, we are gaining a stud, and still have a pick to take a lineman. seems like people think we are giving up 2nd and 3rd round picks. we still have a pick in the 1st round. not the 6th, but still the 1st round.

Didn't the poll on Dock overwhelming say that people would like to have him back but not at the insane price? You know what is ironic, I bet the Bears would trade Briggs for the 2nd we traded for Rocky McIntosh last year, especially if we threw in the Third we traded for Duckett or the 4th (in addition to the 3rd) we traded for Llyod. Does this trade even make sense for the Bears?

My guess is they'd take Okoye, particularly in light of Tank Johnson's problems.

rocky has not even had the chance to show it on the field. let the guy develop instead of giving up on him so damn early in his career. remember we gave up a 2nd rounder just to move up and pick the guy. at least give him the chance to show it on the field, give the guy a full training camp at least. jeez, what is it w/ our coaching staff that is so damn afraid to play young players when everyone else in the nfl does it???


hey, I agree. You will alway hear me saying the same thing. I just thing Briggs is a complete stud LB. We get the guy for nothing, when franchise players cost you 2 first round picks. We get him and keep a 1st round pick. I just think its one of those deals you can not pass up, no matter what you need. Rocky is unproven, he could provide great depth with Marshall. We always say our team has no depth, this could give us some depth there. we only had 1 pick anyway. We were going to trade down and take a DL anyway, why not upgrade and still pick a DL late in the 1st round, which is what we were going to do anyway

I hope the deal goes through solely for the fact that this thread is sure to challenge the dominant SHFT thread for post count.

My guess is they'd take Okoye, particularly in light of Tank Johnson's problems.Okoye fits their system and defensive philosophy, but allocating the no. 6 pick to DT means that they lose their WLB and their first round pick, and don't address what, in my opinion, I would consider a top need.

I mean, philosophically, a defense with Okoye and Harris at the DTs would be so strong that it would blow my mind. But it would also be every bit as poor an allocation of their resources as taking Laron Landry would be for us (except DTs are more important than S obviously).

The Bears are not a team without need. If they were to let Briggs walk, they'd have to make a move for a replacement. They don't have a good 4th LB on their roster. The 3rd guy, Hillenmeyer, is passable.

This trade would leave them with Urlacher and no one at LB.

Can he rebound from last year? There's always a chance he might not. But if every team tried to make a deal to replace any player who may or may not have a question mark, I think a few dominant teams would end up with all the draft picks.
