Washington will propose a swap of first-round draft picks in this year's draft -- the Redskins own the sixth overall selection and Chicago has the 31st choice in the lottery -- in exchange for Briggs. The potential deal, which is expected to pick up steam on Tuesday morning as the annual NFL meetings continue here, would be contingent on the Redskins signing Briggs to a long-term contract. ESPN.com - NFL - Agent: Bears' Briggs could go to Redskins in trade (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2814052) Redskins8588 03-27-2007, 02:18 AM Actually me being right seems to matter a whole lot to you, why? BAN HIM!!!!, He is not a puppet, therefor he should get the PorterHouse treatment!!!! :joke: Redskins8588 03-27-2007, 02:26 AM Why is everyone asking if the Redskins are switching to a 3-4 deffense? I am not sure I am following the thinking. Is it because of the amount of LB's we would have if we got Briggs? I mean the Bears ran a 4-3 last year with Briggs on the weak side. So where are these thoughts of the Redskins switching to a 3-4 coming from? offiss 03-27-2007, 02:28 AM Redskins may put together offer for Bears' Briggs PHOENIX -- While a proposal has yet to be formalized, the Washington Redskins will make a trade offer to the Chicago Bears aimed at acquiring two-time Pro Bowl weakside linebacker Lance Briggs, agent Drew Rosenhaus and two league sources told ESPN.com late Monday night. I imagine the Bears are like a little kid on christmas eve waiting on our proposal! They get rid of a player who doesn't want to be there for the 6th pick in the draft, and will proably plug another no name in there and not miss a beat next season. Then we can talk all year on why Briggs isn't as good with us as he was with the Bears, Rocky can then finish the year as the weakside LB. Briggs is not Wilbur Marshall! SmootSmack 03-27-2007, 02:30 AM Why is everyone asking if the Redskins are switching to a 3-4 deffense? I am not sure I am following the thinking. Is it because of the amount of LB's we would have if we got Briggs? I mean the Bears ran a 4-3 last year with Briggs on the weak side. So where are these thoughts of the Redskins switching to a 3-4 coming from? I was only kidding when I asked it, mainly because we have so many LBs. With that in mind though, can Briggs come packaged with an Ian Scott or a Tommie Harris? SC Skins Fan 03-27-2007, 02:31 AM I am speechless. How is it possible the the Redskins FO are actually considering this trade? It is yet another example of the Redskins having apparently a completely different value system than EVERY OTHER NFL TEAM OF THE FACE OF THE PLANET. The difference in value (just by the chart) between the 6th and 31st picks is 1,000 points, which is the equivalent of the #16 overall pick in the first round. Find me another team that would trade the 16th pick for a disgruntled LB who wants a FAT new contract. No other team in the NFL would give up more than a 2nd for Briggs, not a single one. I challenge you to find the team that would give up more than that. i don't care how many Pro Bowls he's been to, this is just a gross overvaluation of the player. Even if he came in and did well it would still be a bad trade. It is like going to your Stock Trader, saying that you really like Amazon and the way Amazon does business. They have preformed well in the past and you think they will do well in the future. As a result you tell your trader that you don't want to pay the going rate, but instead want to pay TWICE the current price. Even if you ended up making money in the end, that would be a stupid deal. No one trades down from 6 to 31. I feel fairly safe in saying it has probably never happened before and there is a reason for that. It is because every other team in the NFL values their draft picks, the Redskins apparently still do not. If this trade goes through it is really going to challenge my loyalty as a fan and that is really saying something. The only way this deal would make any sense is if we were getting a healthy Tommie Harris back in return. Adding a very good linebacker to a team that needs some very good defensive linemen, giving up too much in order to do so, paying out yet another big contract . . . IT IS LIKE WE ARE FREAKING SPINNING OUR WHEELS, I can't take much more of this! djnemo65 03-27-2007, 03:09 AM we still have a first round pick though if it happens, so instead of getting just 1 player at 6 we get a pro bowler who is in his prime and a low first round pick. i think a lot of people are reacting poorly because they are excited about the draft and want to see us have a high pick, or have their hearts set on trading down. this trade wouldnt be as bad as its made out to be. there are tons of good DE's in this draft, and from what ive heard from sirius nfl radio good prospects at DE can be had later on in the 1st round and even the 2nd round. they even said the DE prospects are all very similar throughout the top part Yeah but dropping 26 spots in the first round would be worth at least an additional two draft picks. Plus it is one of the few positions at which we have reasonable depth. It just makes no sense to do this deal. Briggs was a third round draft pick who excelled in a well designed system, playing besides some of the best defensive players in the league. There is no question he is great, but even if he maintains his level of success with us, we already have guys at that position who can play. Why not use the draft to address our needs and add some depth? That Guy 03-27-2007, 03:12 AM probably saying they're into the trade t get the giants/iggles/roids to bite and overpay. I can't believe the skins would actually pull the trigger on this. djnemo65 03-27-2007, 03:13 AM I still maintain though that the real issue here with us fans is what this symbolizes. This is just so typical of the type of deal the Skins do every year. If it wasn't for the past what might be saying hey, great player, pull the trigger, but this was supposed to be the year where we finally figured it out. All you have to do is listen to Portis's year end rant on the Thompson show to see how the players feel about these kind of moves. If this happens I am getting drunk by myself and throwing things. |
