There is definitely a huge drop off in how much zip he puts on his passes compared to Campbell. He's a reliable back up and if there's any hope of making the playoffs, he's going to have to come through for us...

Sometimes it's good to not have so much zip. At least Collins doesn't have to worry about the ball sailing high, which happens to Campbell a lot.

It was REAL nice to:
Get the win!
Have something positive to think about in the wake of all that IS this season.
Listen to Jaws giving props to the Skins for taking care of business under the WORST possible circumstances!
HTTR.....maybe we have a little fun in us yet????

Collins made up for his lack of zip by getting the ball out quickly and accurately.

Let me add a little of the English language to this thread...

Collins did so well because he had ALL day to throw. His line and Portis did an incredible job of protecting him. Too bad they didn't do that for Campbell though.

When he entered the game, I was scared and actually wishing Brunell was in the game instead, but Todd did well. He surprised me. Hopefully this was not a one-time deal, because with some luck we CAN still make the playoffs. If we can win out, we are virtually guarenteed a playoff spot.

The interesting thing comes when you start asking "what happens when we go 2-1 to finish". We'd need a little help then, from New Orleans (over Arizona) and Denver (over Minnesota), but two and one still should get us in, provided that the one loss isn't against Minnesota.

If we lose to Minnesota, we have a better chance to catch the Giants than we do to catch the Vikings. Those games are going to be pretty critical, and we can't go unless we win at least one, hopefully two.

The only substantial pass where the receiver wasn't wide open was to Yoder, which was a good toss. Other than that, receivers were in spaces with no one around them. Whether it's a product of the Bears terrible coverage, or Collins knowing Saunders' system remains to be seen, but the Collins backers will be in for a shock if they think the quarterback can toss meatballs around every week.He can get away with it the next two weeks though. We play some good rush defenses in the Giants and Vikings, but neither is anything special against the pass, at least not as good as the Bears are.

Collins playing great this game. But before we crown him, the Bears prepared for Campbell and they didn't study tendencies, etc for Collins.

How do you study for Collins? Do you think the Bears have a Betamax VCR in their film room? Tape on him is so old its in B&W. Since there's no sound cards pop up explaining the action...

Well actually, the only season he had significant playing time was with the BILLS in 1997 when he played 14 games WITHOUT Saunders. With the Chiefs, he played a couple of games but not that much film exists on him.

So really, there's NOT much to study on him. They can watch this year's preseason games I guess. :cheeky-sm

if you watch the throw to betts for the touchdown, that ball was squeezed exactly where it had to be. he read the right zone blitz, and found the hot read. Collins is, as Dennis Green said, what he is. a career backup. that has played in this system long enough to know the ins and outs. the giants and vikings pass defense leaves alot to be desired. so as long as we protect, he should have some success. and i downright love Clinton Portis. his pass blocking is easily top 3 in the league. i don't think there is one thing this guy wouldn't do to win a game
