As I said, I am not an advocate of trading Rogers, but if he gets traded I was looking for potential landing spots. Why trade him for a low #2? Because if the Skins are intent on dealing him they aren't likely to get anything more. Look at recent trades in the NFL. The Eagles couldn't get more than a #2 for Lito Sheppard. DeAngelo Hall went for a 2nd in 2008 and 5th in 2009. Jeremy Shockey went for a future 2nd and future 5th. Jason Taylor a future 2nd. But you expect a team to give up a mid-1st for Rogers? Not very likely.
I totally agree with you that they would not get more then a #2...very few NFL players can command a #1 pick in trade. My point is that I think he is worth more then a #2 to the Redskins so it makes no sense at all to trade him. However, I do fear that the Redskins front office is incompitent enough to go ahead and trade him.

I get the sense that we could trade Rogers to the Broncos for Ryan Clady and three 1st round picks...and we'll still find a way to bash the front office for being incompetent

lol...you may be right! Well I think we spent the 9th pick on him and IMO he has played well enough to still hold at least mid 1st round value. So if they are going to trade him I would want his real value not some reduced we need to recoup lost draft pick value. That's all. I don't think we can get that value but that's what i would want to move him. And our front office has not exactly earned the benefit of the doubt in the past 10 years.

Why not four first round picks?

I'm no fan of trading Rogers. But let's say that it is more than just the due diligence by the FO or incessant FO bashing by JLC. Maybe it makes some sense if Rogers really is expecting huge money in free agency (of course, it takes two to tango and I wonder how many teams would be willing to give him big $$$). Anyway, if Rogers were to go, how about the following trade scenario?
Redskins: Rd. 1, Pick 13; Carlos Rogers
Detroit: Rd. 1, Pick 20; Rd. 2, Pick 33; Rd. 3, Pick 65
By the draft value chart that works out to trading Rogers for a 2nd rounder in the bottom third of that round (fair value it seems to me, though not enough value but I guess that is beside the point). I could see Detroit possibly willing to move up in Round 1 if they take a QB at #1 and then want to move up to get the last of the D-Linemen they covet or LB help (MAUALUGA, LAURINAITIS). You know their corners are suspect and Bodden is due a big roster bonus. That would seem a decent trade (until Springs misses half the season and we end up with Hall and Smoot starting with Tryon at the Nickel).
You might not be too far off. Bodden is pretty much gone. But besides that, I think the Lions are almost becoming a lock to draft Andre Smith first (or some OT) and I know they want a QB as well. They may find themselves wanting (needing) to move up in the draft to get their guy.
Suppose they don't take a QB first overall, between them and us at 13 you're really looking at just the Chiefs and Niners as likely teams wanting a QB. So let's say the Chiefs took one of the top two QBs then you could see the Lions trading up before the Niners. But if the Chiefs don't take a QB, even if the Niners do, you have us in a good spot to trade with the Lions and allow them to catapult the Jets, Bears, and Bucs (17-19) all teams that may want/need a QB

It's like a mini version of the Herschel Walker trade!

Word is Alex Mack is moving up toward the top of the Redskins draft board, for what it's worth. Remember it's still early

I would hope if we take him it would be in a trade-down situation. I'd love to have him, but I haven't seen any mock drafts with him going in the 1st round, let alone as high as 13.
