SmootSmack 03-07-2009, 11:07 PM I really hope you're wrong about Cushing. His durability isn't worth a 13th overall pick and besides he played next to a phenom at USC... i know it goes both ways but think Cushing benefited more from Rey than the other way round.
... i think i remember you said Rey would be "overkill" at 13 in another thread. I don't get what you mean...
I don't know that he's worth a 13th overall pick, but his durability really that big an issue? How much time did he miss other than his freshman year.
I don't remember saying Rey would be "overkill" at 13, but I would say that I have more concerns with him at 13 than Cushing at 13 because I know Cushing can be a SAM. Not as sure about Rey. I like them both, but honestly neither at 13.

SmootSmack 03-07-2009, 11:11 PM Man this sucks, what a bind we are in aren't we fellas? But eh, this is nothing new, typically redskins!, im just ready for the season to start to see how bad we can be this year!! and for next offseason when, (as of now) we have all draft picks. SOooo its going to take next year too before we are at were we want to be.

Gotcha, it's Cushing's natural ability at SLB while Rey may struggle in coverage. However... Rey could probably play WLB w/ success for a couple years before moving to the middle. Rocky would be SLB in this scenario and I think he'd do well.
... I'm of the opinion great defenses, most especially the 4-3 defense, need a monster at MLB. I haven't seen anything like Rey (out of college) in quite awhile and 1) we're relatively close to needing a replacement at the position 2) i have a hard time believing Rey won't be at least as good as Rocky has been at WLB in the interim
mrreddman 03-07-2009, 11:46 PM HELL NO to Wynn and or Cushing. One is old and sucked here the last time he was here and the other is already injury prone and possibly a product of the system.
Gotta be Rey or Oher/Smith at #13 and the opposite in the 3rd round of whatever we do in the first with LB/RT.
gully 03-08-2009, 02:59 PM This trade down scenario with detroit (13 for 20, 33) has merit and deserves further discussion.
The smart and safe move for DET is to pick Monroe (or Jason Smith) #1 at OT. Excellent OTs are exceptionally rare. I think Monroe will be the pick.
followed by picks #2-12: blah, insert results from crystal ball here. The only important thing is that Stafford *not* get picked in this group. Looking over the first 12 teams, San Francisco at #10 might be the only team where Stafford would make sense, and for purposes of this trade, I hope they go with someone else.
This is where and why the skins can trade #13 for #20, #33: Stafford probably won't make it past the jets at #17. And DET makes this trade to ensure they get Stafford at a much better slot - they almost can't miss with picking Monroe at #1, but Stafford ... who knows? #1 demands way too much guaranteed money. #13 is just right.
They pull the trigger, and we get #20 and #33.
Redskins select Mack at #20 - some say it's a reach, but we can all see the trend in the NFL toward the 3-4, with massive freaks of nature at NT. The skins also don't want Haynesworth accidently killing Campbell in practice by running of Rabach.
In the event of an injury to Dockery or Thomas, Mack moves to G and Rabach moves to C again.
#33: Redskins select Eben Britton to play RT. And I'm spent.

Great plan but taking a C/G with the first pick is overkill..We deperately need a DE & OT, though Mack is a great player, its not feasable
DE Tyson Jackson makes more sense and fills a need ...
Im all in on OT Britton or Meredith at #33
SFREDSKIN 03-08-2009, 04:48 PM Everybody seems to think that Detroit will be stupid to trade their 20th pick and their 2nd round pick for our 13th. I think a more realist trade would be their 20th and a 3rd round pick, I guess it comes down to how desperate they are at the time.
Paintrain 03-08-2009, 04:52 PM I'm not a huge Rabach fan, seen him get pushed back into JC too many times, but RT is the priority. If one of the big 3 (Smith, Monroe, Smith) doesn't fall then we should draft DE/OLB at 13. I'm pretty wary of Oher for some reason.
While it may sound crazy, what's the harm in seeing what we have in Heyer? He started 12 games over the past 2 years and hasn't been overmatched out there. From what I saw he was an upgrade over Jansen. If we don't sign or draft a 1st round OT I'd give him the job going into OTA's and let him sink or swim.
