According to Elfin of the Times, VC says Brown never came for a visit
Willis picks Seahawks over SKINSSmootSmack 03-08-2009, 06:23 PM According to Elfin of the Times, VC says Brown never came for a visit cobracai1 03-08-2009, 07:37 PM According to Elfin of the Times, VC says Brown never came for a visit This is really weird. It's like they really just don't see anything in any of the FA linemen left. If that is the case and they rather hinge their bets on JUST the draft, I think its a huge gamble. The way we're going I feel it might become a necessity to call out a Britton with our 13th pick. If we can't trade down and the big 4 are not there, we will still need to get an offensive tackle. At least to show that they are trying. Smoot, have you heard anything else from the Barnes front. Haven't heard anything except that he is asking for vernon carey type money which is obsurd. I think the FO is probably spot on wrt available OT talent left in FA... there really isn't anything to get excited about. So yeah we're probably addressing that position in the draft and one of the top 4 guys should fall to us. On the flip side there is some talent to be recruited at LDE and OLB (in FA). We're not flush w/ cash so we have to move carefully... but i feel pretty confident by the time OTAs roll around we'll have signed some talent off the FA market to those spots. ... i'm still hoping for Marcus to return. Ruhskins 03-08-2009, 07:46 PM Everybody seems to think that Detroit will be stupid to trade their 20th pick and their 2nd round pick for our 13th. I think a more realist trade would be their 20th and a 3rd round pick, I guess it comes down to how desperate they are at the time. Well this was the team stupid enough to keep Matt Millen as their GM. SFREDSKIN 03-08-2009, 08:04 PM Well this was the team stupid enough to keep Matt Millen as their GM. I don't think Jim Schwartz and Martin Mayhew are stupid. If people think Detroit would give up their 2nd rounder to move 7 seven spots, then you are dreaming. The 3rd round pick is the first pick of the 3rd round which is more realistic. Good luck finding a taker in that kind of deal. You could also trade the 13th pick for their 2nd, 3rd and possibly a 5th rounder. Actually, the Redskins would do the kind of deal you describe. Giving a 2nd rounder and a 6th for a on old DE. You could also trade the 13th pick for their 2nd, 3rd and possibly a 5th rounder. Doesn't it all depend on who is available at 13? I don't even know if the Lions have a legit QB and dirty Sanchez may fall to that spot... but he probably won't fall all the way to 20. But i agree we're not gonna just swap our 1st for the 20th and 33rd. To get those picks we probably need to sweeten the deal packaging our 1st and last or 1st and 5th rd pick. 53Fan 03-08-2009, 08:40 PM If we were to sweeten the deal...maybe. I would be shocked and elated if Detroit gave us #20 AND #33 for #13. As SFREDSKIN said, a first and third would make more sense for Detroit according to the value chart. Well Jim Schwartz and Martin Mayhew are not the owners of the team. Who knows what they would do, but given their track records the Lions haven't made the best offseason choices in the past. You know there are worst front offices/owners than our own. The funny thing is that my post was more of a joke on the Lions rather than an opinion on the matter discussed. All I heard was Barnes wanted a lot, and the Redskins weren't willing to match it supposedly. I think Barnes and his agent reached out to the Redskins, not the other way around. So I don't know how the strong the interest ever was from the Skins anyway. As I mentioned a few posts back (I think it was in this thread), there seem to be some people who believe the problem is that they need to find another starting RT, while others feel it's depth-particularly on the interior-that's lacking. I don't know what the people who actually matter specifically think Thanks for the update. The only source (if you can really call him one) I have with any relevant news basically said that they don't feel the need to sign a guy just to sign him. I predict a run at O-linemen like we did last year with receivers. It seems our FO targets a need and goes for the kill and I don't mean that in a negative way. Lets just hope one of the 4 are there and we can get a cost effective solution at SLB at least for this year. |
