I don't see many Mexicans in the DC/Baltimore area, so I do not understand why they are suddenly and without warning appealing to this demographic.

Hey Bozzy you ever been down in P.G county? There are many large pockets of hispanic communities all around D.C.

Doubt if that will happen here. In its prime, HFS was not just a rock station, it was true free form radio. There were times when you just didn't know what was going be played next - 50's rockabilly followed by some modern alternative (before "alternative" was mainstream) followed by Led Zeppelin followed Little Feat followed by Hank Williams - with lots of local artist thrown in. It was truly amazing (I swear I even heard opera once). After they got bought by Infinity, they simply focused in on "pop alt" (everything after and including the grunge movement). I haven't even had them as one of my radio buttons for a couple of years.

RNR is close to HFS in its heyday. Not quite the free-form HFS was but still MUCH MUCH more than you here anywhere else. There really are very few stations like RNR in the country.

So to HFS I say - so long. You were mighty once. I am sorry they didn't let you die with dignity.

In the fairfax area they actually have the 3rd largest population of hispanics in the country (according to the 2000 or 2001 Census, things could have certainly changed since then.)

Yeah it is really wrong how they treated there dj's no warning at all. I was watchin the news and they had an HFS promo playing at 11:59 and right at 12 it went straight to the new station cutting there promo.

Within the local DC media, rumors of a change in format at HFS have been going on for months so the dj's weren't taken completely by surprise, it's the listeners that were

if you go to http://www.dcrtv.org/index.html, and go down to this headline:
HFS Goes Spanish - 1/12

you'll see a link for the last waning moments of HFS...

it's a bloody shame...but Infinity ruined that station long ago...

also from that link...the head of Empire Broadcasting is trying to acquite 94.3 in Warrenton (currently a Spanish station) to pair it's signal with the Annapolis 94.3 to recreate WRNR...

Tim Virgin (the only DJ even worth a damn left at HFS) is moving to NYC...

Bozzy, Arlington has a large mexican population as well. Apparently there is a lot of money to be made in the spanish radio market. Hopefully the junkies will get picked-up somewhere.
