Why Andrew Datko?
Andrew Datkoa, Datkoooooooo ANDREW.....Andrew Datko. DatkoDatkoDatko. ANDREWWWWWW Datko
The Way We See It:
An underpowered, intelligent, competitive, hardworking technician, Datko is a hunchbacked zone blocker who played left tackle at FSU, but is better suited to play the right side in the pros. Durability is a major concern and will drop draft standing.
"Effective zone blocker with above average first step-quickness, balance and angles. Gets adequate hand placement and sustains once locked on. Above average body control and can cover up linebackers when works up to the second level. Average drive blocker that can wall off defenders but doesn't generate enough push. Lower body strength appears just average on film. Lunges at times and falls off some blocks. Here again shoulder injury appears to hinder ability to lock out on 2011 film."
In run blocking, Datko is quick off the snap and initially has good pad level and leverage; however, he needs to further develop the strength in his lower body as he does not maintain the low level and begins to raise up on his blocks. He has excellent hand placement (inside the numbers), progresses well to the second level and is best on the move blocking secondary targets.
Really plus size with long arms…quick feet…plays with good leverage most of the time…athletic and does a good job of mirroring in pass protection…does a good job of cut blocking…gets to the second level well…is considered to be a player with a great work ethic…quick off the snap..intelligent player who understands the angles of blocking…
