I don't know about Brown. Shanahan said he was going to need the whole offseason just to get his strength back and while Polumbus and Smith seem nice I can't help but think we went down this same road with Heyer and Wade.

I feel the same. I hope to be proven wrong.

With the addition of RGIII, P. Garcon and J. Morgan to R. Helu , F. Cheeba Davis, S. Moss, Darryl Young, C. Cooley, J. L. Hankerson and Gaffney our offense is going to see a major improvement. Other youngsters like a Logan Paulsen and Aldrick Robinson could also step up and contribute big with another year of experience and familiarity of the offense. Rookie Jarvis Jenkins our best defensive lineman in camp and preseason by far last year will be back and make his Redskins splash. J. Brown could also surprise. Winning does strange things like that.

The reason I say all of this is we do not need to make a desperation move like giving multiple draft picks to get into second round. Unless the price is dirt cheap, I say no. Draft BPA regardless of position or trade back.
We finally have a decent scouting dept and a GM that seems know how to organize a draft.
Let him do his thing with the picks we have.

Since we had a full (plus) draft class last year to build young depth and picked up some starters along the way (although I'm not sold on Helu, Royster Paul or Gomes as long term starters-rather I think they'll be our top role players) if an opportunity presents itself to get an immediate impact player in the 2nd round at a position of need we should package our 3rd and one of the 4ths to get him. If an impact T, DB, WR or yes RB were to be available mid 2nd round and we can get back into the 2nd without impacting future drafts I'd say do it.

Have any insiders heard who our FO is interested in? I assume we'll be targetting the same positions in the draft that we did in free agency, except maybe WR. We haven't improved OL or CB, and there's no way Meriweather & Griffin are long term solutions at safety. So, we'll probably target OL, CB, and S. The OL class is deep, so I hope we can some away with one of these guys if not two:

Tackle

Nate Potter, Boise State: He is a poor man's version of former Boston College LT Anthony Castonzo, as he has the talent to earn a starting job in more of a zone scheme, but is going to need a year or two before he's ready physically to mature into the player he's capable of becoming.

Mitchell Schwartz, Cal: Displays solid athletic ability, but looks better suited to play on the right side in the NFL vs. less speed. A nice early/mid round type draft pick who should eventually fight for playing time.

Andrew Datko, FSU: He's a solid athlete who can bend, re-direct and block in space. However, he's had some struggles with power when trying to stay engaged and hasn't been able to stay healthy throughout his career. Nevertheless, in a weak offensive tackle class, he's one of the few prospects that possess the skill set to start in the NFL

Guard

Kevin Zeitler, Wisconsin: A tough, strong in-line guy who you can run behind and also has some coordination on the move. Not as effective in the pass game, but can mature into an average NFL pass blocker if he learns to get off the ball more consistently. Looks like a gritty type starter early on in his NFL career to me.

Brandon Washington, The U: The talent is there for this guy to mature into a guard you can win with consistently inside at the next level. He needs to improve his pad level in the in-line game and tighten up his footwork in all areas. However, with a year of seasoning he certainly should mature into an above-average guard in the NFL with the talent to start at right

The CB class is okay. I hope we get Brandon Boykin from Georgia for his versatility. He could return kicks and is a playmaker.

The safety class is really weak this year. That's why I wish we would've gone after a guy like Reggie Nelson.

LaMichael James in the 3rd Round would be a steal. We need playmakers and James has the potential to become an electric playmaker as a 3rd down back and return man.

I would be absolutely ecstatic if we were able to get RGIII in the 1st, James in the 3rd, and Ryan Broyles in the 4th.

That would be incredible. If we did that we would be expecting alot of players to step up on the OL & DB field IMO.

Mitchell Schwartz: California 6-6, 318 my choice for RT. He's higher on this board than any others Ive seen. Looks like lotta people starting to take notice.

Read about this guy would be nice I believe rated to go in the 3rd round.

I keep reading that. Yet there are some safeties in this class who I really like who we might have a chance to draft, if we want one of them.

Markelle Martin: Great range, good tackler.
Brandon Taylor: Very underrated IMO. Made some key plays for his team.
Harrison Smith: Solid all-around safety with good size.

I think we might be able to get one of these players in Round 3, although I'd expect the Skins to be looking for a playmaker on offense at that point. Perhaps one of them will fall to us in the 4th Round.

I would have no objection to LaMichael James with our 3rd round pick.

3rd is where I'm hoping to draft Boykin, if he drops. Of course, that is Mitchell Schwartz territory too, but I think Nate Potter will be there in the 4th.

BTW What happened to Harrison Smith this season? He went from 7 picks to zilch? I'd still be surprised if he's there in the third round when we pick.

It seems like a lot of folks want a big-time playmaker on offense. I feel like Helu has that potential. What about Garcon? Isn't he a big YAC guy? Deep threat? Not saying we don't need a home run hitter, but I'd rather spend our early picks on OL and secondary, hoping that some of our recent acquisitions will pan out.
