Right now, as I keep turning this over in my head, the best thing for the team's future is for Dan to sit down, shut up and simply endorse MS through the season:
"As I have in the past, I will continue to support Mike as he leads the Redskins through the 2013 season. Anything that will assist him in winning these last games, I will do what I can to give him. During these final three games, I will not disrupt his management of the team or the lockerroom he has assembled. As in any year, once the season has concluded, I will evaluate the product put on the field by those I entrust to do so and make my decisions on the team's future accordingly."
The only response after that is "It's Mike's team. I do not interfere in his decisions".
If Dan can keep a cool head throughout this, I think he can do a lot to retrieve his reputation and demonstrate that a coach will be well supported here, even in tough times. Unlike in the past, I think Shanny's machinations are pretty transparent to "the Media". Maybe that is just wishful thinking.
Who knows ... Shanahan's little sh** show may, ultimately, wind up being the best thing for the Skins in while.

I think it was once he saw the ship was sinking and there was no winning streak in the works to save his ass again.
You'd think there'd be a more constructive way of dealing with getting fired than that though.

Yeah but in that case Shanny wins and walks away with his $7M and Snyder looking like the meddling a-hole.
It won't happen but it would be great drama if he just canned Kyle now.
Ha that's brilliant!!! Would love to see Shannys presser after a Kyle firing.
You'd think there'd be a more constructive way of dealing with getting fired than that though.
You would think so, but it's clear he's more interested in saving his reputation vs going out like a man and saying this was on me.

I'm sure he'd like to but his hands are tied. He comes off as the bad guy if he steps in.
Not to me. Formally forbid it for any reason other than a true injury. Write a MF'n letter and tell him not to do it or he'll risk being fired for cause. Then release a statement calling into question Shanahan's motives and integrity. Start fighting back.

Why does it bother you that he's lying? All NFL coaches hide the truth.
They lie to gain strategic advantage on the football field. Shanny is lying to steal money.

If it's truly about the concern of your star player's health (and he's just ONE of the star players IMO) then you need to sit the rest of them. I would sit Morris now that he has gotten over his 1000 yards. I would keep Jordan Reed out, Pierre Garcon, Kerrigan, Orkapo, etc....this move with RGIII is just in spite. It just kills me that they're not getting rid of Shanahan this week.

Well he certainly deserves plenty of blame. However, it's obvious that the owner has created some of the mess too.
I think DS has caused plenty of issues in the past. I am seriously struggling to see how this mess can be laid at his feet. Beyond the obvious notion that all of this ends at his doorstep at a certain point it has to be acknowledged that all of this has been caused by Shanny. What exactly did DS do to cause any of this? No one has really laid out a single thing other than that he had dinner with the team's QB. Having dinner with Rob caused Shanny to shit the bed for 4 straight years basically? I don't buy that at all. That's crap.

I see the logic in this approach and it may be the right way. But boy would I want to drop a pipe bomb on Shanny's little plan. Hard to do though since DS doesn't have a lot of good will built up in the media.
Sitting RG now also protects Shanny from criticism if god forbid he did get hurt, his rep would really go in the tank. Either way it's a move based on his own motives, not out of concern for the team or player. Just another CYA move.
