LOL at the people that think JJ is an NFL qb

What's wrong with him as a backup?

JJ is about as good as Colt, and some here thought he was worthy of replacing Alex before injury....

As opposed to Mark Sanchez right?

I'd be fine if we went into the year with Colt as the starter and JJ as the backup. I'd rather do that than reach for one of the 'top' QBs in this year's draft, or waste what little cap space there is on one of the free agent QBs that would amount to no real upgrade. If they pick up a QB they like in the later rounds to develop - fine, but don't waste the top pick this year. There's too many other needs and it's not smart to pass up on a top-tier OL, ILB, Edge Rusher, TE, DB, etc.

Kyler Murray numbers out of the combine according to PTI Tony Kornheiser:
"official height 5' 10" & 1/8" same height as Russell Wilson.
Hand size 9 1/2"
Bigger hands than Baker Mayfield."

It's hard to believe this will be a playoff team this year. I say ride it out with Colt and JJ. At most, bring in a guy like Fitzpatrick, Taylor, or Siemian to compete.

Lock down your own, like Sherff and Ioannidis with long term deals.

Use the available cap space to bring in a couple top tier free agent O-linemen and a safety.

Draft BPA at 15, trade back once or twice to acquire more picks, and draft the BPA every pick. This team just needs an infusion of good young talent and depth.

Look at making the move for Tua, Herbert, or Fromm next year.

I'll be beside myself if they reach for Murray, or draft any of the top four being discussed this year.

Agreed.
I'd stay with Colt and JJ. Don't sign anyone. Don't draft anyone unless BPA at 15 is a QB. Don't trade up.

Cutting Alex Smith after next season will save 16M. Then hopefully we're in position to bring in a new HC that will be more than happy to have a pretty high draft pick to use on his QB of the future, a decent amount of cap space to spend in FA, and a young roster built through the draft the past few years.

I'd do nothing and draft other contributors to build the team.

Coach Jay Gruden expressed confidence in Colt McCoy as the Redskins' possible starting quarterback.

Yikes. Alex Smith (leg) may never play again, and McCoy is the only other quarterback on the roster. "I could be really ignorant," Gruden said. "I've just seen him throw the ball for five years in the offseason, in training camp. ... I have total confidence. He's got a great knowledge of the system, he's comfortable with the guys we have, he's a great leader, he's a competitor." McCoy started two games after Smith's injury last year only to go out and break his own leg in Week 13. The Redskins aren't expected to be players for Nick Foles. Perhaps they'll draft a quarterback or bring in a Ryan Tannehill type to compete with McCoy for the job. This team is going to stink.

Jay has to say that right now, for 2 main reasons...

A. He doesn't want to seem desperate for a QB right before the draft even though the world knows.

2. He's the HC, He has to say these things

I would have no trouble letting JJ start this coming season. With Alex Smith's contract and all the holes that need filled a 2-3 win season with JJ at the helm and the first overall pick in 2020 would be just what the doctor ordered.

I know our front office is terrible, but what do you want him to say? Let other teams know exactly what we are going to do? Does any team go out there a be super honest about their plans for free agency or the draft? I'm genuinely curious about this, because fans seem to think we are the only team that gives vague political-like/coach-speak answers.
