The Scrap Heap

thought we should have one thread to debate the pros and cons of all the various players who will be released from their current teams over the coming weeks and months and whether or not the redskins should consider signing them.

ty law has been released by the chiefs and i think he would be a good upgrade over david macklin

Re: The Scrap Heap

This will be an interesting thread

Ty Law is likely going to have to move to FS. His days as a top flight corner as done; and as a nickel are dwindling. If it was 2001 I'd be all over it. Now? I'd pass

I agree. His best years are behind him and I think the last time I saw him do anything of note was Indy vs KC in the playoffs a few years back.

Darwin Walker is available. Please don't let him come here.

Fred Miller is available. Leads the league in false starts.

Javon Kearse is likely to be available. Can't play anymore

Byron Leftwich and Trent Green are avaialble. Caveat Emptor!!!

Wow....all chumpies except maybe Kearse. I have no clue wether he can still play at all, I just know that he terrorized us for long enough and I'm glad to see him go. Well, ya know, we could sign him for the....nevermind. It's not even worth saying at this point.

I wouldn't mind Leftwich as a long term backup. Plus he is from DC, and that might rejuvenate his career.

agreed! i, for one, am highly skeptical of todd collins' value as our primary backup now that we are no longer using al saunders' system.

i think leftwich would be great in that role. especially now that he's been cut by 2 teams, i imagine his contract negotiating leverage is about nil.

Does anyone know what's going on with Leftwich?? Is he that bad that he can't even get a back-up job?????

He's had an ankle & knee problem that I don't think he's ever recovered from. Don't know if that's what's keeping teams away, but his long wind up motion combined w/his unhealthy legs makes his delivery extra slow.

Teams misevaluate QBs all the time. Leftwich will sign on somewhere, but no team has an opening at starting QB, so barring something happening to the starter of whatever team he signs on for, he's probably not going to get another chance.

Early career injuries can derail a promising career, even for a player who continues to learn the tricks of the trade from the sidelines. Players who are injury prone don't get financial committments, and any QB without a financial committment will take the blame whenever anything goes wrong. He's an easy scapegoat.

Re: The Scrap Heap

i agree with what's been said so far. but i'm interested in upgrading at dime back. macklin did virtually nothing for us this year. i'm sure we could nab law for a reasonable 1 year and get some decent production out of him.

Maybe. All I know is that we better get someone and cut that bum Leigh Torrence. That kid just flat out CANT PLAY! Everytime I see him on the field he's either out of position as hell or he's flailing around like a fish out of water. Anybody but Torrence. Anybody. And if Torrence saw the field before Macklin, well, that tells you a little about how much he has left.

I wouldn't mind Ty Law. Maybe he could get a second wind with us.
