Carter is on the wrong side of 30 and coming off the best year in his career. he doesn't fit in our new defense and its an uncapped year. if there's ever going to be a time to move him, its now.
Exactly my thoughts. Carter doesn't have a spot in the 3-4 and he's aging, so we really should get what we can for him now. It's always better to trade player a year too early than a year too late. I would be happy to get Carriker for Carter straight up. There's significant injury risk, so have the team doctors evaluate him. He's built ideally for a 3-4 DE and at 25 could be a starter for years to come. The potential reward outweighs the risk IMO.

Call me crazy, but I think a guy like Carter could be beneficial for the Rams. I believe their d-line is very young, so a veteran coming off a great season would help them.
