Where does it say that the bears picked up AA's 5 million guaranteed money? I would love that and would think that this is the move of the year if the Bears actually did that.

Also, is your name john daly, if so, that is sooooo cool.

Edit-sorry for the double post, i just pressed back instead of edit when i tried to edit.

Somebody else posted it (Schneed, I think), but I think it goes something like this:

We traded AA before his bonus was due. When a player is traded, so is his salary/bonus.

"Safety Adam Archuleta, a free agent bust in 2006, also isn't going anywhere barring the unlikely event of a trade with Chicago, which wanted him before he signed with Washington. Archuleta's $5 million guaranteed bonus for 2007 is due tomorrow."

See the Wash Times article on the Warpath for the link entitled "Gibbs.."

This quote says it all to me. The trade seemed unlikely but they got it done. Compare this to the Coles trade in which we got Moss (an upgrade) but we ate all the cap space. For arch, we managed to get a pick plus they're picking up the 5mil tab!

Yeah, sounds right. This is from a bears forum:

Faced with the deadline, everyone worked on getting a deal done. The Bears will pay Archuleta $8.1 million over the next three years. The Redskins rid themselves of his $25 million contract. A total of $5 million of Archuleta's new deal in Chicago is guaranteed.

1. Chicago Bears- $15.90 M under projected cap(updated)
- $1 million rex grossman bonus
-$7.206 mill. lance briggs franchise tag
+1.912 mill. T. jones traded( 2.72 sal.-8125K sb)
-$2.05 Mill Roster bonus Tillman( $3.3 million 2007 salary)
- $2.67 mill adam archuletta ( 1.67 million SB 1 mill salary)

What do the Bears fans think of the trade?

Something like this, "Brown and AA are going to wreck shop next year!"

Per La Canfora in the Washington Post:

The Redskins and Archuleta agreed to postpone his original deadline of March 12 to receive his bonus payment in order to facilitate a trade, and the Bears, whose coach, Lovie Smith, has a strong relationship with the safety from their time together in St. Louis, ultimately agreed to pick up that $5 million payment as part of the deal, sources said, beating today's new deadline for the option.
Archuleta will get a new contract with Chicago, while the Redskins are expected to land just a sixth-round pick as compensation for a player who was drafted 20th overall in 2001. Had the Redskins executed the option and kept Archuleta as a reserve (behind starters Pierson Prioleau and Sean Taylor), he would have cost them $2.4 million against the salary cap; by dealing him, he likely will count $4 million in dead cap space, pending any other possible contract restructurings, but will be off the team's books after 2007.

you know I am glad to get his contract off the books after next season, but I dont understand why every one is so RA RA? It just speaks volumes in the ways of this front office. It has been very, very questionable the last 4 years. we go on and on all the time about this. We let a former 1st round pick, who we made the highest paid safety in league history, go for a 6th round pick? How bad is that. yeah yeah, preach all you want about how we dont have to pay him, but we do still have to pay him 4+ million in dead cap space. we lead the league in that every single year. GW has to be held accountable for this crap. Bailey gone, smoot gone(back now) pierce gone, clark gone, Arrington gone, mis steps with Arch, Barrow, Wright, Rumph. who is letting this guy pick these players. Everyone in the league knew Arch was not going to fit here, but GW did. Carter has yet to earn the 10mil signing bonus 30+million contract. he played well in 3, 4 games? He may turn out to be ok, but come on. its just another move and big contract that hasn't worked out. there has to be some kind of change soon if this organization is going to put up another big silver trophy at Redskin park.

Archuletta should do better in Chicago than he did here in Washington not because of the coaching but because of the system. He'll get to play zone a lot more there and - assuming that Briggs actually does come back and play in Chicago - he'll have far more competent linebacking in front of him to take care of business in that part of the field without his "intervention".

Archuletta never was a cover guy - - even coming out of college. The biggest mistake came from whomever it was in the FO or coaching staff or both who thought he could work out here in a system that liked to play man coverage more than once in a while. Those are the folks at whom your wrath should be aimed. Archuletta simply signed a piece of paper that guaranteed him more money than he ever thought he was going to be offered. And then he played about the way he should have been expected to play in this system.

Someone mentioned this earlier in the thread but let me reiterate it here. Archuletta was a bad free-agent move but it is nowhere near as bad as the Scott Mitchell signing in Detroit was. That was THE worst of all time...

I agree. One thing I have noticed with the redskins is that for some reason they seem to view other teams players as better/more valuable than their own.

I don't think Arch was ever "ours" really. And secondly, do you really still feel that way after the moves we've made these past few months?
