GTripp0012 03-20-2007, 08:43 PM It takes two to tango....so what incentive other than loyalty does Cooley have to sign before he becomes a FA? After the crazy contract offer Dockery got, I think Cooley will want to become a FA and see what his over inflated value will be in the FA market. If were in Cooley's shoes, you would do the same.
I am glad we got rid of Archuleta. I am surprised we got something in return. What's in it for Cooley?
Money. Lots of it.
This guy has been producing every year since his rookie year and still isn't even in his prime yet. If any guy deserves to be payed like the leagues top TE, it's a 25 year old who plays like the leagues top TE.
Espicially considering that he's been on a rookie salary for his entire career and hasn't complained once, use our cap space to extend his deal. He's one of the few deserving players on this roster.
Anything less than what Graham got would be a bargain for us.
GMScud 03-20-2007, 08:45 PM We are not in danger of not signing Cooley. Never have been.
yeah, but if Daniel Friggin Graham just got made the highest paid TE in the league, then the market will certainly dictate that Cooley should get a huge contract with his skills/young age/numbers. Not having the baggage of AA's contract simply assures we'll be able to pay him what he has earned. Can you imagine how absolutely livid the fan base would be if we let Cooley slip away?? I would punch a hole in a wall for sure...
Defensewins 03-20-2007, 08:45 PM Cooley thinking of leaving!?! Perish the thought! I'm putting my hands over my ears now. LA LA LA LA... I can't hear you.
Cooley thinking of leaving?? : NO
Cooley thinking about getting financially set for life with his next contract? : Yes.
I am sure he wants to be a Redskin for life, but his families financial security comes first before being a Redskin for life.
Skins fan 44 03-20-2007, 08:45 PM We ought to draft a saftey with that 6th pick. He can do any worse then Arch.
Crazyhorse1 03-20-2007, 08:46 PM We will now see if it was the coaching, or the player. If he goes to da Bears and becomes an all pro, heads have to roll.
It was the coaching, which we will learn to our grief. This was Williams and his ego failing to handle and/or adjust to a run-stopping DB whom every knew was not a good cover guy. AA had a huge number of tackles while he was playing last year and will have a huge number at Chicago, where they'll use him correctly.
Skins make one personnel gaff after the other-- starting with Brunell and embracing Pierce, Smoot, Arrington, Ramsey, Collins, Patton, Holdman, Clark, etc., etc.

We're going to take care of him.

I do see the logic. However, I still have hope that there are players out there who have a sense of loyalty. Yeah, I know, I'm old school for thinking that way. But one can dream right?

I agree partly. AA did have a huge number of tackles, mostly from behind b/c he just got burnt. Unfortunately AA was just a microcosm of a bad defense that couldn't cover well, tackle well, never forced turnovers, and was repeatedly gashed for big plays. Coaches and players were both responsible. Overall a terrible effort. And even when AA was used "correctly" in St. Louis he was never more than a decent player.
Another reason Chicago wanted AA is becuase they just let Todd Johnson go via free agency, and Mike Brown is very injury prone. They needed a safety badly, which is probably why they didn't wait to pull the trigger on a trade.

You know what, if this was last offseason, I would have said that the kid would be gone, but with the exception of D-Dock this preseason, we've done pretty well in taking care of those well deserving. I don't think Captain Chaos is going anywhere

I can't believe that you guys got a sixth round pick for Archuleta, and rid yourselves of his contract.
Good work.
