Lotus 07-06-2009, 12:31 PM True, most of the time snyder doesn't make good decisions, but I think that he was on to something with getting cutler, cause cutler isn't a wimp throwing the ball like Campbell. He may throw more picks than Campbell, but he also throws twice as many TDs as Campbell, thus scoring more points, therefore a much better chance of winning the game with a highly touted defense like ours, this is why I like colt, cause he also showed that he isn't afraid to throw the ball, like cutler....Campbell on the other hand is like " let's dump it off to the short route receiver or maybe I'll throw it deep to santana, but only if he's got his man beat by atleast four steps...". This won't change, he's a conservative quarterback, and to win in the NFL today you need to be able to just go out there and sling it...I think zorn wants to name colt the second QB during training camp, cause you can't name someone that with no cause...then I think he doesn't really need to tell Jason anymore that he's on the hot seat, but he'll definitley let him know that he isn't afraid to to give one of the backups the starting job..plus Campbell and zorn aren't idiots, they know that colts a fan favorite, and they read the message boards every once in a while and pobably this site too
As for me wishing an injury on Campbell, sure that's a bad thing to wish on someone (even tho I wish one on tom Brady every year) but A) I only wish campbell would get a hard hit or something that causes him to sit out for a quarter or so, not a season ending injury or a broken arm, foot, leg, or hand...I think an injury that's small is all it would tAke to put colt in with the first teamers, and see what he could really do, cause I don't think zorn well put him in after everything JCs been thru this offseason and telling him that he's our starting QB, plus I'll give one last chance to wow me or show me that he's improved in his second year in the offense, but as soon as he shows me nothing has changed, bring on the cult of colt!
I pray two things:
1) that both Zorn and Campbell are too busy trying to improve to ever read message boards or this site.
2) that what fans think has no influence over Zorn's personnel decisions, even if he does read fan opinions. To have fans influencing the thinking of football professionals is the height of lunacy.
Luckily I think that both of my prayers have already been answered.
SkinzzFan 07-06-2009, 01:12 PM Dan brought in Spurrier who brought in Weurffel who knew his system ala Todd Collins.. how is that laughable?? The ONLY reason Collins is on the team is because he basically spent his whole career in Saunders system and knew it inside and out.
Ppl tend to forget that teams were trying to get Spurrier in the league for years before he came to the Skins.
Todd Collins took us on a playoff run. What did Danny two-gloves do?
Slingin Sammy 33 07-06-2009, 01:29 PM Well im sure Jaws and Kiper are NEVER wrong in their player evaluations. They are both correct more often than not, and in the evaluation of Colt neither had anything glowing to say, Jaws was just more critical.
And when Colt was drafted he was like 190lbs, now he is around 210. On Redskins.com it said he spends time after practice throwing 50 yd passes. My 16 yr. old son can throw over 50 yds, I can still throw over 50 yds, most HS QBs can throw 50 yds, there's a ton of people who can throw over 50 yds, big deal. Bottom line is the guy has sub-par (at best) arm strength.
ppl forget in the WCO you dont need a cannon. its more on timing in the short to intermediate range.I sure didn't forget that, but the ball needs to get where it's going fast or those slants/crosses/short outs turn into picks.
JC has a cannon arm. we dont see it often though. NFL Network showed many situations on 3rd and long where he had wrs downfield past the marker in one on one coverage and yet he checked down to the wr that was 3-5 yards short of the first. So either the man cant read defenses, doesnt trust his arm or plays scared to take chances. When did NFLN show these "many situations", I sure as hell don't remember it and I'm very confident all the JC haters/Cult of Colt would've posted those clips or made quick reference to them. I don't recall any here.
Your assessment of JC is off. The guy has improved every year and was mentioned as a Pro Bowler in the first 8 weeks of last season. Why don't you take a look at Matt Hasselbeck's first year as a starter under Zorn and then the improvement in his 2nd year. JC is our starting QB. Colt is a 3rd string back-up who might not make the team if he doesn't have a strong pre-season.
What has Colt shown you that goes against what Jaws said initially about him? His arm strength hasn't improved drastically, he didn't make particularly great reads in pre-season last year, he made some questionable throws in pre-season, and hasn't fixed his side-arm release. For every Joe Montana there are a hundred Timmy Chang's

What has JC done?? I recall when Collins was the starter we were scoring 20+ pts a game.
Colt is a fan favorite in the eyes of the delusional only.

I recall Jason Campbell leading the team to victories in Dallas and Philly as they got off to a 6-2 start. You can blame him for the 2-6 finish if you choose to ignore the injuries on the offensive line (and inconsistent play by the WRs). Based on Danny and Vinny's strategy in free agency and the draft they ignored it as well. Say what you want but it's very difficult to win with a patch-work O-line. Yea, I know Pittsburgh won with a less than dominant line but they also had the #1 defense in the NFL working the other side of the ball...scoring points and leveraging field position. Two things the Skins hope to do on defense this year.
Why do I find myself defending the Redskins to other Redskins fans? That's crazy IMO.
HAIL!

Good video, Seeing JC's number really drive home how inadequate a QB he was last year. IMO, there has to be a reason both Gibbs & Zorn are reluctant to take the training wheels off when JC is the QB. I really believe the QB position is what's holding this team back.
He definitely needs to be more aggressive in going down the field and I think he will be with more confidence that comes with being in the same system for a 2nd year. He's going to be more sure of his initial read and he won't hesitate like he did last year. Part of his 3rd down struggles could also be due to coaching. He very well could have been told to take the checkdowns unless you see something wide open.

Hadn't seen this before, this was done on May 19, 2009. It's Solomon Wilcots' analysis only, he showed three plays.
1) against the Giants in the first game of 2008. Campbell missed the post against Cover 2. Let's crucify the guy for that mistake in the first game of the season, new offense, new coaching staff, against the Giants.
2) 3rd & 12 against Cleveland, he didn't take the Go route, against Cover 2, possibly because he was hit just as he checked down, possibly because the WR in the slot either didn't do enough to draw the safety into the middle, or didn't clear the LBs fast enough, hard to tell who was primary on the play.
3) 3rd & 17 against the Giants again. Wilcots says it's Man-to-Man downfield, it's not. It appears to be Cover 3 with M2M on, I'm assuming Moss, on the cross. No one is open, we don't have playmaking receivers who you can throw the ball up to an hope they "make a play". Do you think for a second Collins or Brennan complete that 3rd & 17? I sure hope not.
Campbell isn't Brady/Manning, but the one thing I agree with Wolcots on is that the training wheels need to come off this year. We all agree it's "put up time" for JC, some think he's up to the task, others don't. But one thing is beyond debate, he's light years ahead of Colt and far superior to Collins. If we're going to have a chance this year it will be because JC stayed healthy and plays well.
