Skins' interest in Sproles is pretty genuine. Though I have a feeling Sproles is planning to use the Redskins to get what he really wants. A big contract from the Chargers.

Not sure Sproles is aware that he'll be dealing with Bruce Allen.

You mean the Skins' wallet won't be wide open as in years past?

That's silly talk.

lets not forget the year after bruce came to the buccs he sign all those Raiders and went on a spending spree in Tampa. It wouldn't be out of character. I think it will be up to shanny who we get.

Sb- normally I would agree with you, but I think this team has a faster turn around time. Last year the players gave up on Zorn. The team is better than they looked. There is a new buz around reskins park with Shanny here and Vinny gone. Secondly the Skins have the freedom to go after who ever they want with no cap to stay under. I honestly think we are a offensive line and runningback away from being back in contention.
 just an offensive line away. Nothing major, ya know, just a minor part of a football team.

Please note that that is a complete OL, and not one OL player, away. I want the Skins to get to the SB, but between our schedule, yet another new coach, and an unproven line (however it is constituted), we will be a solid team, but I hope that anyone coming in is looked at as atleast a 4 yr player. That's why Sproles would be my number 1 request, at 27 he has his best years coming up.

I sincerely hope I'm wrong but I see it taking longer. Your right we need an offensive line, and I would almost forgo the RB position if I had to not touch one for a year. That's hoping Portis can make a come back, Ganther looks awsome in Shanahan's system, and Alridge becomes the playmaker the team needs. The good news is OL and RB is deep according to all the pundits.

I like JC but the team needs, and especially Shanahan needs, a QB who is accurate with the ball. If the team can find that person either in FA, draft, or Colt finally steps up and shines with accuracy then I'll agree with you that I like our chances of doing pretty good cause I too agree the team is better then they played last year. I think a lot of it was on Zorn and his screwed up scheme, along with man-to-man blocking in a scheme which is supposed to thrive in a zone blocking scheme, plus our injuries.

I guess I'm saying "IF" everything fell into place I could see us making the playoffs in 2 yrs. Give the team a year to learn the system and learn to work together and pick up the remaining missing pieces. I'm concerned about the defense now though. All those years coaching and Haslett really never had a break out season and although I think the defense could be better a lot has to happen.... it has to be the right players in the right scheme, all the players have to buy into it, and maybe it will have a chance. No different then our OL where we have man-to-man blocking OL built for man-to-man and we are going to be changing to a zone blocking system.

Well after watching most of the combine I come away with my top prospects in terms of whom the redskins should get in terms of over all value and who fits Shanahans offense/Hasletts 3-4 D :

1) Sam Bradford (puts on 13 lbs of muscle and just talks at the combine, then all of a sudden he's become the all but certain first overall pick)

2) Russell Okung

3)Ndamakong Suh (just watch what he did to texas's OL, and you'll see how good he really is he single handedly dominated that game and is an exception for us to get even though he may not fit the 3-4)

4) Eric Berry

5) CJ Spiller (the best RB in the draft IMO)

6) Charles Brown (looks like the next best LT in the draft; is very quick on his feet and would fit our offense very well)

7) Mike Iupati (the best guard to come out since Steve Hutchinson, has a mean streak, and I believe he could play in any offense)

8) Bryan Bulaga (has been injured and looks more like a RT in the NFL, and not a LT, doesn't really look like a T for this offense but has potential to be the best T in this draft 5 years from now)

9) Joe Haden (didn't do as good as people thought he would at the combine, but just look at the film and you'll see how good he really is; he's low because we have OL and QB needs before CB needs plus I'm assuming we'll probably go after a CB in FA)

10) Rolando McClain (didn't really do much at the combine, and people are saying he was good just because Saban's system makes him look good, I don't buy it, I also think 3-4 MLB is one of the last things we should worry about)

11) Maurkice Pouncey (the best center in the draft, big and mobile, but we'll probably get a later round center or just rely on Rabach with a later round rookie to groom; and don't sleep on Edwin Williams or Kory Lichtenstreiger)

12) Sean Weatherspoon (is perfect for this defense because he's a 4-3 OLB and a 3-4 MLB, basically a young dansby, but I also think we could have dansby, and like I said before MLB isn't a top need)

This is from Casserly's comments about picking up some of the FA OL....

I honestly hope Pashos is smart enough to stall his talks with the 49ers until the market opens. I think since he already knows Foersters offensive scheme plus knowing the Skins need OL he would atleast wait and see what the Skins offer him. Hell I'd take whatever the Skins offered just to get away from the nut job of a HC out there.

It will be interesting to see how many of those named wait to test the market or if they are slightly interested in working under Shanahan since he's known to alway have the best offensive line in the NFL.

I thought Singletary had won over the troops last season...no?

lets not forget the year after bruce came to the buccs he sign all those Raiders and went on a spending spree in Tampa. It wouldn't be out of character. I think it will be up to shanny who we get.

Part of the reason among others, as to why Bruce was excited to come here was the freedom to spend money on players. The Glazers have become notoriously cheap as of late especially with the recent explosion of the team.

I don't know how much they're involved at Man U but they traded the Lebron James of soccer in Christiano Ronaldo for $90 million then to calm down the fans they had to make a public statement promising to spend that money on players. If Snyder made that deal how many people would be worried about him spending that money on players?

The Glazers are slowly reverting towards the Bidwell and Mike Browns of the league. Though I will admit that part of it might be because they're maxed out financially.

But anyway back to Bruce, basically the freedom to spend more money was part of the reason this job was so attractive to him.

Glazer family promise to spend Ronaldo money on new players for United

Manchester United's American owners, the Glazer family, have insisted they will fund Sir Alex Ferguson's plans to replace Cristiano Ronaldo with "world-class players" after dismissing the "paranoia" of supporters who fear the £80 million transfer fee will be used to service the club's £700 million debt.

What sort of spending spree did he go on in Tampa exactly?

^ In 2004 Tampa let go of vets Sapp, Lynch, and Keshawn Johnson. They brought in 19 free agents including Brian Griese, Charlie Garner, Joey Galloway, Matt O’dwyer, Matt Stichcomb, Jason Widdle, Derrick Deese, Todd Steussie, Darrell Russell, Ian Gold, Mario Edwards, and Josh Bidwell to punt. Don't believe the Hype Matty different faces, same game!

Of those 19 FA...I only recognize the first three. It's not exactly the Skins' FO approach during Snyder's ownership...signing huge star players for enormous contracts. Tampa did things on the cheap under Allen if I'm not mistaken.

...my take is Allen thinks he can spot talent and acquire it economically. Now his boss is willing to spend whatever it takes. The important thing is Allen and Shanahan keep Snyder out of the process (entirely if possible) and make wise football decisions to build a deep, talented and cohesive roster.
