I am loving the Destiny beta, it's like the perfect marriage of Halo, Mass Effect, and Borderlands with a touch of mmo as well.
I love Mass Effect and Halo (Mass Effect 2 is my clear cut best game ever played). I can appreciate Borderlands but as far as Borderlands is concerned I'm actually more interested in Telltales upcoming game (http://youtu.be/mDNlEaqnrAY) based on the BL universe rather then playing my copy of BL2.
However the online only aspect, even for single player has pretty much killed any interest I've had in the project. For the most part I've stop playing online multi-player, a decision that's actually worked very well for me.
"You absolutely are going to be able to play Destiny by yourself and have the same kind of fun shooter-experience that you could have in a single-player campaign, which is a word that we’ve weeded out of our vocabulary," he explained.
Bungie's upcoming Destiny will feature a highly crafted narrative experience, one that you can experience as a traditional "campaign." However, even if you're playing the game single-player, you will need an online connection. "To play Destiny, you need to be connected," Bungie's Pete Parsons succinctly noted.
Statements like these kind of remind me a bit of EA with Dead Space 3 where they said that in spite of making the game less scary, increased focus on action, and throwing in an online co-op mode that the single player experience would be just as satisfying as the previous two games.......they were wrong.
Another scary part of the game is that with Destiny a $60 purchase could be nothing more then an expensive paperweight a couple of years down the line if the game doesn't perform up to expectations because after all peoples ability to play the game is dependent on Bungie and Activision keeping their servers running. Also as is common with highly anticipated online games there have been server outages.
