Peppers-to-Redskins rumors go to full boil
Posted by Mike Florio on March 4, 2010 10:22 PM ET
Less than two hours until the start of free agency, rumors are flying that the Washington Redskins will soon be signing defensive end Julius Peppers.
The thinking had been that, if the Redskins decide they want Peppers, they'll get Peppers. It just wasn't clear whether the Redskins want Peppers.
Our pal Lance Zierlein of KGOW in Houston has reported, via Twitter, that the Redskins will come "charging hard" after Peppers and that he expects a deal to be done by tomorrow. Last year, Zierlein reported that the Redskins would land defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth days before it happened.
And we're hearing that the situation has progressed well beyond the Redskins "charging hard." We're hearing it's essentially done -- and that barring an unexpected development the only question is whether the deal will be announced before or after the sun rises in D.C.
That's bad news for the Bears, who had planned to make a strong push for Peppers.

NFLN just said that Peppers may not be interested in the Redskins. Florio is going to jeez his pants if this happens.
The Goat 03-04-2010, 10:37 PM I just don't get the Peppers move. Not one bit. Dansby made some sense and especially if Rocky is shipped out. Peppers starts at what position exactly? Putting him on the right side as an edge rusher simply moves a better player IMO (Orakpo) elsewhere. Putting Peppers on the left side means he learns a brand new position.
...I think this would be the first hugely questionable FO move under the new regime.
Where is SS on this rumor?

I don't like breaking the bank on Peppers either. Although, I think is the best FA available by far.

James Harrison is not inhibited by whoever is on the other side of him(Hood or Woodley or Timmons or whoever it is).
Ware is not being inhibited by Spencer.
Dansby is listed as an ILB
I remember seeing Peppers lined up as LDE against us last year.
There are reasons to be wary of Peppers. Taking away Rak's playing time isn't one of them.

Where is SS on this rumor?Well, if they put him on the right side and Orakpo on the left, both are playing their positions from last year.
But Peppers has played off the left side considerably in his career, and Orakpo played on the right side in college, and in third down situations last year, so they could really go either way there.

As questionable as a contract for Peppers seems. Put yourself in the Offensive Coordinator's shoes who is game planning us next year.
It is 3rd and 9. Orakpo is on one side, Hayneworth is in the middle and Peppers is on the other side. That can't be a comfortable feeling....
Ruhskins 03-04-2010, 10:52 PM Updated front seven (old school Dan Snyder edition)
Peppers OLB, Dansby ILB, Fletch ILB, Orakpo OLB
Haynesworth DE, Jamal Williams NT, Daniels DE

We'll still kill the quarterback though.
