ESPN: Jets join Bengals considering possible addition of Terrell Owens - The Huddle: Football News from the NFL - USATODAY.com (http://content.usatoday.com/communities/thehuddle/post/2010/07/espn-jets-join-bengals-considering-possible-addition-of-terrell-owens/1)
Longtimefan 07-27-2010, 09:24 AM ^^ You seem to be remembering the TO of 3-4 years ago.
At this point he's not a guy that strikes fear in a defense.
Plus, if he were to come here, he'd expect to move right into the starting lineup as no less than the second receiver. Anything less than that, I can imagine him being the true malcontent he is. As usual with him it's risk vs. reward.

Ok so maybe he is not the TO of old, but he still is not Joey Galloway. I'm sorry but you can not tell me a 38 year old should be there over TO. I never have liked the guy, but from a football perspective he has the most left in the tank at the lowest price, especially not having to give up picks, that the Redskins can get.
2009 Season Stats
Santana Moss
Rec-70 Yards-902 TD-3 AVG-12.9
Terrell Owens
Rec-55 Yards-829 TD-5 AVG-15.1
A. Randle EL
Rec-50 Yards-530 TD-0 AVG-10.6
Devin Thomas
Rec-25 Yards-325 TD-3 AVG-13.0
Malcom Kelly
Rec-25 Yards-347 TD-0 AVG-13.9
My Points:
1. Statistically, Moss barely edged out Owens in receptions and yards. Owens dominated everyone else on our roster.
2. Owens played for BUFFALO last year. Who is terrible. Who has no offense. And he still put up numbers better than almost all of our WRs.
3. Owens is motivated to play against Dallas and Philly twice a year and stick it to them.
4. He is by far the cheapest option available to us without losing draft picks and possibly a low salary.
I know he has a storied past and he has not been the greatest locker room presence, but he wants to play, he still can play, and as a football move I think he would be the best option because of what he could bring at a substantially lower price than anyone else we could get. Shanny can handle his ego and personality. I know a lot of people don't like him, I know I never really have. But you have to look at it pragmatically, for what's best for the Skins, and I think this is it.
I think Galloway is here as more of a mentor type. You can't argue he's a much better locker room guy than TO, plus he's much cheaper.

I know he's in kind of a mentor role. I was just trying to make it as a point to people who say he shouldn't be here. It's a roll of the dice in the end, but one I think is well worth the risk.
artmonkforhallofamein07 07-27-2010, 09:44 AM Well we would have to get an offer in soon, the Bengals reportedly have a deadline to accept the offer by tommorow and the Jets have contacted Rosenhaus to possibly sign him as well. The TO ship is about to sail and we aren't in the plans.
The more you analyze TO to the Skins the more it becomes a REACH. I just don't see how putting him and DM together again when you are trying to rebuild the culture here in DC is a positive thing. It would be a real gamble by MS and BA to have a situation that can become volitale at any time.

Well said. I think they have enough on their plate with AH.
sandtrapjack 07-27-2010, 10:13 AM I just don't think Owens is needed in Washington, with Galloway and Moss and Kelly and Thomas.
Now if Galloway was not there, maybe. But you just don't need Owens.
diehardskin2982 07-27-2010, 10:14 AM The biggest issue on TO is his attitude, as if people don't mature get older and change. I think this offseason is his last as a free agent. Where ever he goes will be the team he retires with. If his agent and he are smart they will wait until after training camp where there will be an injury or lackluster play somewhere.

Suck a dick ! You're WR core is straight. Ours isn't. You have a Big WR that can be a threat, we don't. Besides that's 4 dudes we could always use a 5th. But for all the bitching that the Skins fans here do about Kelly why wouldn't we bring in TO ? But I guess Kelly is cool now because it's him or TO. I'm sorry for the suck a dick comment but I hope you understood that was in jest. But seriously, suck a dick, don't tell me what we don't need when you know for yourself that it will be an improvement. Like I said, Witten ran free and you know it. Now you have Austin so you don't need a TO type anymore, but as of right now, we don't have one of those.
