freddyg12 12-10-2010, 02:16 PM Ultimately, I think the level of frustration w/this original post & w/us in general is that we now have a 'franchise qb' yet he's made his share of mistakes & we only have 1 more win than last year so far. i.e., we had expectations for McNabb.
In addition, like JC in 08, he had a winning record for a short time & things seemed to be on the upswing until Detroit. These last four games are pretty important for this team, but especially for McNabb. If he ends w/a bang, we'll be back to our unrealistic expectation havin selves this spring when the draft rolls around!
12thMan 12-10-2010, 02:30 PM I'm not holding my breath on McNabb and wouldn't expect him to improve at this stage in his career. I could see a scenerio where he improves marginally based on the talent around him and being more comfortable within the system, but that's about it. Look, McNabb has been an NFL pro for a decade, so whatever NFL system he's playing in, new or not, won't dramatically improve his ability to read defenses or the mechanics of his game. They are what they are. He does look he could shed about 5 to 10 pounds though.
I guess the real question is did we get hosed on the deal? On that front it's probabloy too early to tell, but my gut as well as what I've seen from MC5 thus far tells me we got the short end of the stick. McNabb isn't too much different from Jason Campbell in that he'll do a few things well enough to string you along for another two or three games.
What I do know about McNabb is that he's not putting this franchise on his shoulders this year or next and carrying them to the promise land.
12thMan 12-10-2010, 02:44 PM Don't get me wrong, leadership and moxy are important and something this team has lacked for years at the QB position, but at some point you've got to be more talented than the guy across from you. Sometimes you just have to line up and knock him flat on his ass, down after down. Sometimes your quarterback has to plow through that safety or juke his ass out of his cleats for that first down.
over the mountain 12-10-2010, 02:55 PM 9th overall in passing for the entire NFL people. 9th . . . let that sink in.
with a crappy O line, injured rookie LT, new scheme, new coaches, UFAs platooning at runningback we are 9th in passing. and he isnt getting his passing yards on the dink and dunk YAC crap JC did, hes doing it through the air on big plays.

WOW, If you would have asked me where I think we rank in passing I would have said some where in the Twenties. Thats impressive for what our Offense is made of.

the real question there is, is that a reflection of our o doing good, or a reflection of how god awful the nfl is in general this year.
there is a damn good chance that a division winner out of the nfc has a losing record this year, let that sink in.

Haven't really noticed the NFL being awful this year?
over the mountain 12-10-2010, 03:44 PM umm okay . . . . doesnt change the fact that our passing attack is currently the best it has been in quite a long time. since we are ranked 9th overall in the league, it doesnt matter if the NFL is having a "god awful" year or not, its all relative. we are 9th in passing in a "god awful" year then. so what? there are 23 teams in that same "god awful" league that our worse than us in passing. i dont get your point. maybe if we played in the NFC west but i think your just trying to hold onto the darkness. some people can only be comfortable if they are miserable.
i think our current ranking is a reflection of 1) mcnabb's ability to create/constantly look for the big play and 2) our new coaches.
we have anthony armstrong as our no 2 receiver, let that sink in! mcnabb was credited for making no-name receivers productive in philly, now he is doing the same thing here. imo mcnabb has lived up to what i had hoped and expected of him. yeah, he has some accuracy issues but his good outweighs the bad imo.

It's all relative, LOL, I was going to say the exact same thing bro... I figured I'd give you the chance to respond first since you were quoted. :food-smil
