super cheap Franchise Tag .. maybe the cheapest in the league ??? I like the idea of keeping Davis & Cooley in the mix while developing Paulsen. However this smells of the end for Dirty 30 unless they have a long term deal in the works but it appears this regime ain't operating like that. This is going to be one hell of an off season.

The franchise tag is the best option with him. Can you really bank on a repeat violator? We're not talking about $7.25 an hour or having an Aaron Hernandez backing him up. Heck, I'm even open to drafting a TE this year. This won't be a long thread. There's lots of input in the off-season thread already. Tyrone Biggums with a helmet on...

landry sucks... he could be good, but only if he could get on the field and was never asked to cover anyone.

if fred davis gets suspended, i heard that we get the money back for whatever games he misses, so why not? there are only two guys on this team you'd franchise this year (davis/landry) and both safety and TE are very cheap tags...

I think if you franchise him then you are minimizing the risk that he'll test positive for weed again. The franchise tag is the equivalent of a one-year deal, which means he'll be playing for a big contract. He'll have every incentive in the world to keep himself clean.

It does mean the franchise tag can't go on someone else.

Fletcher is our most valuable free agent, but ive got no reason to think we wont work something out. After that, who else on our team that is a FA worth franchising? Landry would be the closest bet, but i think both he and the team are ready to move on. Even if we did want him, no one is going to offer him money equal to what the franchise tender would pay due to his injury history, so we could sign him on the cheap.

as far as davis goes, i'm 100% behind franchising him. Its just a one year deal at a reasonable cost. considering he's one joint away from being suspended a whole year, a one year deal is perfect for him. It gives Davis a year to prove he can stay clean and prove he deserves the big payday. If he plays well, hes more than worth top 5 TE money in a long-term deal. If not, its only one year so were really using 5 MM in cap space on him. GREAT value in my opinion .

Now that I think about it. Trade him on draft day.

Trade him....

Trade a guy who was suspended 4 games for failing a drug test and is one failed test away from a years suspension.

Trade a guy who spent three years trying to make Skins fans forget he was the one who overslept his first day of training camp.

Sure there'll be a bunch of takers for that. We'd be lucky to get a 4th rounder for him. Even that sounds ludicrous as I type it.

Seems everyone else is saying how valuable he is as our most explosive offensive talent. I don't value him as much. I'm just saying if the Skins decide to trade up in the draft why not consider throwing in Fred Davis.
