This.
Franchise Tag - Guarantees the player the average of the top 5 highest salaries at his position. Other teams can sign, but would have to give up two 1st rounders to that club.
Transition Tag- allows player to sign with another club, but gives the team putting the tag on him the right to match the offer and retain him. No compensation is given if team doesn't match.
Davis will be getting the Franchise Tag.

Franchise Tag = Win/Win.
I'm sure FD would want to sign a contract for more then one yr. The Skins probably wouldn't want to get tied to him for more then one yr until he shows he can lay off the marijuana. By Franchise Tagging him the team is only tied to him for one yr and FD gets the type of money he would want thinking he's top flight.
So in the end its a Win/Win. The plus side is if another team thinks he's top flight also and makes him an offer then they would have to give up some draft picks for him which is also a plus for the Skins.

interesting. i suppose that's why you don't see many teams using it. and to my understanding, they cannot be used at the same time?
