Ruhskins 03-19-2012, 04:12 PM Can we now agree that most 'insiders' are just throwing darts at the wall with their information? Prior to his release the top 4 teams rumored with 'mutual interest' for Manning were Washington, Miami, NY Jets and Arizona. As it comes to pass, he had no interest in Washington or NY, some interest in Arizona and merely a passing interest in Miami. Nobody had Denver on the radar and few had SF as a legitimate contender.
I think a lot of people kept mentioning SF and Houston as teams that made sense from the get go. Denver was probably not on the radar, but everyone knew that Elway did not want to make a long term commitment to Mile High Jesus.
I am sure it is hard to predict these things, either that or maybe there was a genuine interest by Manning until he or his people did research on these teams. Plus, I am sure teams that were not desperate for a QB stay put and see what the initial onslaught of bids for Manning was going to look like.

A lot of the early team speculation assumed Manning would have to accept a heavily incentivized contract. Clearly as the guaranteed amount got larger, teams with less cap room dropped out (i still don't understand how Arizona thought they would be in his ballpark, even if they axed Kolb)

Not sure where you get this from. We did have a interest in Manning, and this was stated sometime ago from regular ES insiders. The options were....
Manning + later round drafted QB to groom
RGIII + quality vet
Tannehill + quality vet
These were all serious options for the Redskins. There was no "throwing darts" to it at all. All those teams you mentioned had serious interest in Manning, now whether Manning had serious interest in them is a different story.

Not to me. I mean Tom Brady, Brian Hoyer, and Ryan Mallet? Ones a franchise QB and the other two are future trade assets as well as quality back ups.

I think a lot of people actually thought SF made sense. And some thought maybe Tennessee, simply because of geography really.
I don't think anyone had Denver...except Colin Cowherd

Just another reason for CC to gloat. SS no offense but I really can't stand his analysis sometimes. He makes some sense, but he can really get off on tangents at times.
Manning to the Broncos really makes sense to me, but the weather may play a factor if he fails to win there.
