I'm no humanitarian award winner, but fuck me, people are assholes.

Taking money from people that really need it while stealing from your own country. Throw the book at them.

I had posted earlier about I got off Facebook because of all the drama and hypocrisy and conspiracy theories about the virus but if this doesn’t scream some kind conspiracy I don’t know what does,I mean wtf? You don’t just “fall” out a window, and a top researcher is murdered when allegedly was near a breakthrough? I’m not saying I believe anything is going on,what I’m saying is this is weird and this just adds fuel to the fire to some of these theories.

I am trying to play it safe, but I refuse to wear gloves and a mask in public. I went into a supermarket for the first time in 2 weeks as the mom and pop markets around me don't sell Cyrstal Light or similar drink mixes. I didn't check the TP, but it was obvious a lot of items were still being hoarded. For an early afternoon, late morning it was way more crowded than normal. I saw quite a few people almost jumping out of the way when someone got closer to six feet. It does appear the people around me are losing it.

It seems so strange to me to open a UPS package with shop supplies and spraying the things in containers with disinfectant and putting them away. Also trying to remember how long items that can't be disinfected have been here so I can stop washing my hands after I touch them.

Worse thing is it supposedly it lives 7 days on plastic. So seriously how are you supposed to handle a loaf of bread? Pretty hard to get a slice out without touching the plastic. I have just been grilling my sandwiches. No sure how much that helps.

So you wear them in private? I dont wear gloves but def wear the mask, when I get back to car I immediately put on hand sanitizer.
I think it's just gonna cause the US to shut down again with that kind of attitude,I see too many people not giving a shit, you may not care if you get it but the next guy might that you're inadvertently passing it onto, just my opinion. All the states that have started to open up are seeing the numbers go up,I fear another shutdown in the future

From the 4th paragraph:

Evidence is mounting that masks — if worn in public places, by everyone — are far more effective at stopping transmission than was previously realized. Across the nation, testing remains wholly inadequate, but home-use nasal swabs and saliva tests are on the way that may provide a clearer picture of where the virus is.

If any good comes from all this I hope that as a country we adopt wearing a mask in public when we're not feeling well like they do in Asian countries.

The problem with expanded testing - and I am not specifically saying don't do it - is it gives the media "scare" numbers. I would rather the focus be on ICU and total bed usage - that is the key statistic, not how many people have a mild or unrealized case of it.
the site worldometer has a projections page for each US State, Maryland's is linked here: https://covid19.healthdata.org/united-states-of-america/maryland , if their numbers are right, currently Md is experiencing a 3 to 1 shortage of ICU beds, with the projection being that by Jun 1st we would be back within operating capacity, they also show that Md is currently has an overall surplus of 1 1/2 times total bed capacity.

I am not saying any of this to make bold recommendations. My only point is that the number of positive tests is more likely to drive fear than rational behavior.

And I think they can be done as a fashion statement too. Those neck scarf/mask things can be done well. Was thinking of getting a Redskins one if I can find one that's not too gaudy.

I was just talking about this to my buddy this morning. Not only do they wear masks in Asian countries when they aren't feeling well, they wear them in public areas commonly, just as part of their culture. One thing i think changes permanently among Americans, is that we wear masks in public from now on. I would think at some point in malls and stuff, that wearing masks is a permanent requirement.
