Hey everyone,

My wife and I are just about to start the Insanity workout and wondered if there is anything we should know. I'm sure it's somewhere in this thread, but I am too lazy to dig it up. We haven't really been working out in weeks and I know you're supposed to have some baseline of fitness.

I'm curious to find out how difficult the Insanity workout is. I would eventually like to get it or P90X2. Usually I think most of those beachbody workout regimes comes with a workout that sort of helps you to measure you fitness before you start the program...at least P90X did.

I haven't done Insanity myself, but I know some who have. It's not easy, it's all high intensity cardio.

I just wondered whether it was easier or harder than P90X. We decided on this because she doesn't really want the muscle part of P90x. Tonight is the fit test, so I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Cardio is good...cardio+weights is better. More muscle mass helps your metabolism as muscle burns more calories. Also cardio burns calories during workout...weight training continues to burn after workout. Weight training is really a key component of exercising.

Another good one is ChaLEAN. It is a little more on the doable side intensity-wise but it has a good mix of healthy weight training and cardio. It is especially a good workout for women although men would find it to be solid too. I am currently going through it with my wife and I like it well enough. It has a different vibe than either p90x (a little muscle-headed) and Insanity (a little cardio-freakish).

Right. I mean we both need to lose weight, but this is the only way she can do a program and get into it. She HATES doing weights. After we do this a couple of weeks, then I'll probably start lifting again and see if I can get her into it.

There's a fitness website called Fitocracy where you sign up and track all of your exercise activity, ie running, weight lifting, cycling, etc and receive points based off the difficulty of the activity. Ten pushups is like 15 points, whereas my marathon was something like 4200 points. Anyway, when you have a group of friends, coworkers doing it it becomes fairly encouraging/competitive. I was a little skeptical at first but it's turned out to be a cool little gimmick.

OK, just finished the freaking FITNESS TEST for Insanity.

Seriously, one of the hardest things I've done so far. Sure, I'm not in the greatest shape right now, but that was extremely difficult.

I've been wanting to join that, but I haven't been invited yet. Are you able to invite as a member?
