So what are our options out there in free agency to bolster the line?

SouperMeister 09-20-2009, 10:52 PM So what are our options out there in free agency to bolster the line?I'm pretty sure that Pete Kendall is available. That's who I'd be calling since he knows the offense. Beemnseven 09-20-2009, 10:54 PM Okay, so -- Week 2, our first starter on the O-line goes down. Can't say we couldn't see this coming. Cerrato's been whistling past the graveyard for years with the O-line. I bet they figured Thomas would last another ten years or so. Though I think we probably have some good choices with Montgomery and Rinehart...what better way to develop your young players than having them actually play. Longtimefan 09-20-2009, 11:21 PM I think that at the end of the year we will be saying how good our Oline is, because it will only get better as they gel together. This year we have a young guy to throw in there. Normally, it is a over the hill vet that we put in there. That is an improvement right there. Rinehart is an unknown, maybe a star in the making. This is what the experts have said we didn't have in the past. The young unknown to put in there when a vet goes down. In fact I will say that Randy going down is a blessing in disguise. He has been injured every year he has been here, and we have had to fill his spot or let him play sub par football. I love the guy but he has never been reliable. I must say I have the maximum admiration for your optimism. There's no fault in that. SBXVII 09-20-2009, 11:25 PM Other then Kendall ....who is out there that's still available and worth looking into? Well don't people bitch about how we don't build through the draft, develop players, and always go with old players at the line? Well, this is an opportunity change our ways and develop a player we drafted by letting him play with the other starters and add youth to our o-line. Beemnseven 09-20-2009, 11:29 PM Though I think we probably have some good choices with Montgomery and Rinehart...what better way to develop your young players than having them actually play. True -- they'll have to play at some point. I think we'd all prefer to have somebody beating out Randy Thomas on a performance basis though. Agreed..though this may be a good way to part ways with a guy who's losing his abilities due to age. Beemnseven 09-20-2009, 11:32 PM From 2001-2007, there were no offensive linemen picked in the first three rounds of the draft. That's a pattern. And not a winning one I might add. edit: check that -- first two rounds of the draft (Dockery, 3rd round 2003) |
