Redskins Insider - Redskins explore their nose-tackle options in draft (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/redskinsinsider/mike-shanahan/redskins-explore-their-nose-ta.html#more)

as discussed in the RI report above, anyone think we will go after one of the NT studs in the draft? Dan Williams out of Tennessee, Alabama's Terrence Cody and North Carolina's Cam Thomas are the three mentioned. i assume that we would have to use our second round pick to get one of them.

i dont think any of those guys can be considered a "stud." given the lack of stud NTs in the NFL, any true stud NT would be being talked about as a top 5 pick. from what i've read, suh and mccoy are both more 4-3 DTs although either could play DE in a 3-4. Not sure either of them would be an ideal NT in a 3-4 though.

you are right on both counts. i meant the "studs" of the guys that can play NT, not of the draft in general. its also true that good NTs are few and far between.

I think Terrence Cody really dropped after this week, he is now a second rounder who could fall to the third round. If we were to get a 3rd round pick for someone like landry, I would use that 3rd to get him, just because he is a NT and good one for the NFL.

i get the uncapped year thing but what happens if the cap returns? then the team would have to get purged to get under the cap...i think they should spend a little but not go overboard...peppers would be amazing and hes made it known that hes wanted to try being a 3-4 linebacker...hell they even made mention of that on the pro bowl telecast tonight. i doubt hampton is going anywhere...wilfork on the other hand prob is. he wants a long term big money deal and its not looking like the pats are willing to do it (although im sure an uncapped year may change their minds a little). im unsure how effect AH would be in the 3 technique but who knows. I really like your sig tho...he does have 100 million reasons to play whatever the fuck position they put him in lol

I heard some sports analyst speculate that even if it comes back, it won't be like the old system. They said that the players do not want a cap and many owners do not want a floor. So the speculation was that the next cap might be similar to the NBA where there is some type of luxury tax for those who choose to be above it.

I understand the people who say we need to build through the draft and we need to avoid overpaid free agents. I am in the camp that when you are 4-12, you use the uncapped year to dump all the stupid contracts (ARE comes to mind) dump players who are wasting a roster spot (Betts), bring in any player that makes the team better at market value, and not be afraid to overpay for a star or two.

We need to remember that EVERYONE has said that Bruce Allen's biggest strength is contract negotiation and cap management. The days of throwing away picks for a Brandon Lloyd and then immediately tearing up their contract and giving them #1 receiver money are gone.

Teams aren't going to go crazy spending money in an uncapped season. It's not that hard to estimate what the cap would have been increased to, and teams will just use that figure as a self imposed cap.

I agree with this for most of the teams. I do wonder if the Skins will abide by a self imposed cap, or if they will go for the best players available and have a much looser overall budget. For us the best part is definitely dropping any and all dead cap/unproductive players.

I really can't wait to see exactly how this FO handles this new situation. I hope they choose wisely!

I'm with you. Less than 48 hours of waiting left.

As mentioned above cap mgmt is one of the things BA is known for, and the Skins overall under Snyder have always been cap wizards, so I'm not overly concerned.

When I think of Cody, the word "stud" does not come to mind. Instead I think of "blob," "glop," "mound," and similar terms. :)

Redskins gave Kedric Golston the 2nd round tender, according to Jason ReidI'm surprised. Golston never stood out to me as a guy who could take on double teams. He was getting owned in the Lions game and on that Johnathan Stewart touchdown, they double-teamed him and he got pushed back like a rag doll.
