So someone please explain this to me.... If there is no new CBA by next Thursday, which at this point seem highly likely, how can teams trade players for draft picks, if they want to make that happen? They can't can they? They can trade picks, but not players?

Agreed, blessing in disguise. But I surely wouldnt count out Minnesota not taking Locker at there first pick if that is who Shanny wants.

I don't discount that at all. I am on record that if they like Locker they should just pick him at #10. But if at the end of the day they are not sold on Locker or any other QB at #10 then I prefer a trade down over drafting another position.

Can't trade draft picks for players but now word is spreading that you can trade next years picks at your own risk.

Really starting to look now like Quinn won't be there at #10. DaQuan Bowers' injury kind of screwed us.

So we'll likely look to trade down and possibly pick up Locker there. Though I'm not sure he's the top choice. Our best bet right now is a trade down with the Rams at 14. Though they may screw us by trading to 9 with the Cowboys. I don't think Minnesota is taking a QB in the first round (not at 12 at least) so I'm not concerned with dropping to 14 and risking missing out on another QB.

One week to go! Can't wait! I might actually get to sit in a war room next weekend!

Smoot, I respect your opinion, yet I'm puzzled by your reasoning about trading down four spots when thinking about taking a QB in the first round. Perhaps you know something that you're not saying such as the Skins having a verbal agreement to trade McNabb to Minnesota after the draft.

Otherwise, for the Redskins to trade down four spots and risk losing the QB they want just doesn't make sense to me. If a team takes a QB in the first round, they expect that QB to be their starter, if not their Franchise QB, sooner rather than later, don't they? Trying to pick up a third round pick is just not worth the risk of losing such a player.

I doubt Minnesota is serious about taking a QB at #12. They're built to win now and will likely look to add a veteran QB like McNabb to make another run. And they already have a young QB to develop in Webb. Plus it's not as if Locker is our only QB target, or even our top option.

Yeah seems likely that Quinn won't last til 10 now.

That's cool on the war room, which team or can't you say?

Don't know which team yet, couple of options. Not the Skins.

KI-just putting it out there as a calculated option they may take.

Ah the prophecy is coming together. Soon I will be looked at as the Warpath Insider. People will come to me and fill up my inbox with request for information and I'll be super cool. Even though I can sense something is amiss. Wait if I'm trying to destroy Smootsmack and become the insider why am I using his post to confirm my prediction???????? DAMNIT.

Just for clarity me saying maybe they'll take Locker at 14 is just my own speculation

You mean this?

http://www.thewarpath.net/nfl-draft-central/42086-26-27-60-qb-formula.html

The formula has some merit but there are certainly exceptions to the rule and other factors that have to be considered more than these 3 categories.

Considering Shanny liked him enough last year where he would have considered taking him at #4, taking him at #10 this year shouldn't be ruled out or come as a surprise if it happens.Does anyone know who the last quarterback who started fewer than 27 games and completed fewer than 60% of his passes AND had considerable NFL success was? I'd say there's some guys you just don't take.

Let's simplify this: I want to find the quarterback with the LOWEST college completion percentage to be drafted in the last ten years and achieve some reasonable degree of success. I am guessing that we're going to be dealing with a 58% or better passer.
