Chico23231 02-28-2011, 02:39 PM Man I just loving the fact we are talking about NT(s). Thats where we need to focus...its pivotal to our success of making 3-4 transition. When it comes to talent at that spot this year, I think much more talent in the NT position than the QB position.
BleedBurgundy 02-28-2011, 04:17 PM He could but theres putting on 20 lbs and it effecting your game in a positive way, then theres putting on 20lbs and it effects your game in a negative way...Paea would need to put on 30 lbs IMO to be anywhere near NT affective.
Plus he's coming off an injury and supposedly he's injury prone, so I don't really like this guy so..next player please
he'd also need to grow about 2 inches in height. As a 3-4 NT, he would need to be tall enough to see the flow of the play in hopes of redirecting traffic. As a 4-3 DT, he's tall enough as his job would be penetrating into the backfield...

What about Aubrayo Franklin of the 49ers? The Guy is 6'1 317 and is considered an elite Nose Tackle. Jay Ratliff is also barely over 300 pounds yet he's easily one of the few Cowboys that actually deserved to go to the pro bowl over the course of the last couple years.
Everyone wants Vince Wilfolk but the fact of the matter is that 3-4 teams are having no trouble plugging inplayers that are less then 320 pounds.

6'1 is actually an ideal height for a Nose Tackle in todays NFL as Guards and Centers are usually 6'2/6'3. Teams want guys that can get under the pads of these interior players, hence the short-squaty typecast.
Casey Hampton 6'1, Vince Wilfolk 6'2, BJ Raji 6'2, Aubrayo Franklin 6'1, Kelly Gregg 6'0.

I wouldn't call Franklin elite, but he seems to be one of the lighter true NTs in the league, I would say he's an exception to the typical 3-4 NT. Ratliff thrived in Wade Phillips' version of the 3-4, which we are not running, and now Rob Ryan wants to turn him into a DE.
I would rather for the team to pick up a NT that already has the built to be an NT and learn the position, rather for someone needing to bulk up and learn the position. That's just my personal preference. BJ Raji was already 330ish pounds when the Packers picked him up. Wilfork was also at around 350 I believe when he was drafted. In the end, we need a good player for that position, but I don't want to see a player built for another scheme (i.e. a 4-3 DT) shoved into a 3-4 NT role.
Dread-Skin 02-28-2011, 06:13 PM We have a NT need. Does anyone think AMontgomery could have been a 3-4 NT? I had high hopes for him but his work ethic was rumored poor and I think we signed AH shortly and after and that has worked out....
I can't wait till the future arrives when we have draft picks and are able to complete in the draft process.

Yeah, it's funny because the guy Montgomery was most often compared to was AH both in terms of talent and work ethic.
But Montgomery had very high hopes for himself, often....emphasis on "high"...and some players can do that and do their jobs, while others get cut
skinsfaninok 02-28-2011, 06:56 PM ^ SS what's up bro? Any news on a certain player or players the skins are high on?

Ahh that was the problem huh? Or at least a contributing factor.
skinsfaninok 02-28-2011, 08:03 PM Former OKST and Oakland Raiders coach Pat Jones has a radio show here in OKC and he said earlier today that from what he has heard through his sources, SF,and WSH plan on taking a QB in the first round of this draft. He has also mentioned Seattle being rumored as a possible team to move into the top 10 to take a QB. Again this is a former coach in the NFL who is usually pretty good on his predictions.
At this point I think Gabbert goes first then Cam, If we want Locker at 10 I think he will be there.

It's so unpredictable right now with the labor mess, and add to that Shanallenahan's natural secrecy, that no one can say with any definitiveness what's happening.
That said, here are some rumors
-Want a veteran RB to share the load with Portis
-Want Sidney Rice
-Want Davin Joseph and if JB asks for too much, Ryan Harris
-Rogers is asking for a lot of money. They've been close to an agreement, then not so close, then close again, then not so close. I think ultimately he stays. But that's just my guess
-Keep hearing Quinn at #10, and maybe look to trade into the 1st for Locker late if he slips. Or possibly trade down and get Locker (or another QB: Ponder, McElroy often mentioned). Either way, not really hearing much about Locker at #10 itself. Personally, I think if they want Locker they'd be taking a pretty big gamble by waiting too far down the 1st round
Still, it's so unpredictable right now because teams don't know if they can even act on free agency
I'm curious if Jenkins or Woody would be considered?
Sidenote: I had mentioned a while back that we planned on bringing Matt Bowen back for a follow-up Q&A following the combine. We're going to put that on hold and (hopefully) will have surprise Q&A. I won't say who it is. It won't be a instantly recognizable name. But it's someone who really knows the business and spent time in a key role with the Redskins. It will be different from the usual player Q&As. We've spoken a bit recently, and I think you'll enjoy this one
