What made you to think that he fumbles alot? He fumbled only 12 times with 439 carries & 118 catches. I would say that's low.

He put it on the ground 5 times last year. He needs to clean that up.

Hightower was tied for the fifth most fumbles in the league at 4. Thats bad. Even considering the next Redskins to appear on the list was Torain tied at 19th on the list at 2 fumbles.

What exactly makes our O-line so bad?

Lack of ability to pass protect and marginal ability to block for running plays.

That about sums it up.

So back on topic,

I love SC's optimism, but if Hightower ends up being mentioned in the same breath as some of the great Redskins we've had at RB I will be shocked.

I love his work ethic and versatility, great pickup and I still can't believe we got him for what we did, but I'm not seeing an all time great in the works.

I'd love to be wrong though.

Matty:

I am not predicting "an all time great" here.

I said he had the potential to be the best Skins' RB since Riggo. That was almost 30 years ago and since then the Skins have only had a handful of good running backs - - and have had exactly ZERO great ones.

Hightower is a young guy who could give the Redskins a string of seasons with 1200 yards rushing and another 750 yards receiving while also providing something more than a blocking dummy in pass protection situations. That will not make him an "all time great" but it would be a nice upgrade...

I hear ya, I guess I'm not seeing that potential greatness. I still only see him as a 3rd down type of back. Not that there's anything wrong with that, a guy that can block and catch some passes on 3rd downs is a nice thing to have.

Torain will have a role assuming he can stay healthy and Helu has been flashing, so I'm not seeing Hightower coming in and being the workhorse.

An underrated part of this trade is that the Redskins seem to have a clear picture of how Hightower fits into what they are trying to do on offense this year. It's everything the Bowen/Atogwe/Cofield signings weren't.

There's a lot of good things about Hightower. He adds value with his blocking, and he's on an upswing in his career. He was not a good player at all in 08 or 09. He was average in 2010, and perhaps impressively so behind a sieve of an OL.

Put another way: Hightower was more valuable in Arizona last year behind a horrible OL and a team that almost never led and trailed by a lot than Torain was here on a team that lead a fair amount and had a merely below average OL.

Again, I would rather have kept the late round pick because we're only getting one year of Tim Hightower with this trade, and it's not a particularly valuable year with the Redskins well behind in the NFC East. But it would appear he's going to play a role in this offense and be a meaningful contributor.

See, this is what I love about Warpath. SC thinks Hightower has Riggo potential, Matty thinks he'll be more of a third down back. But neither of them called the other stupid or asshole for having varying opinions so far apart.

Just something I noticed and it's worth pointing out from time to time.

Myself, I think Hightower will be more like Eric Dickerson.

Well I think he's going to be a role player and, also, that your a stupid asshole for having an opinion that varies so far from mine.

I'd facepalm, but I think I used my alotment earlier.

Hightower is Dickerson now?

Dickerson is one of the best RBs ever. I'm not sure there is any RB in the league now that can compare to him, Adrian Peterson (TD or fumble) included.
