A.J. Smith to be Redskins GM?mbedner3420 01-02-2015, 09:32 PM https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B6NIcE4CQAAU2t5.jpg:large That is hilarious! SmootSmack 01-02-2015, 10:05 PM Particularly if the relationship between Smith and Wade Phillips (San Diego connection) results in Wade coming here. I am so tired in seeing Bruce hiring people he is familiar with. If you're conducting a real job search you open it up to the best candidates. Phillips is easily the most accomplished. If they hire him instead of a familiar face it will show me they are actually letting AJ make some calls. Which would be a step in the right direction. Wade and AJ go back to their Buffalo days together I'm totally fine with AJ Smith in charge of football operations mlmdub130 01-02-2015, 11:18 PM Just read a few articles on AJ's drafting philosophy. He mentions that he learned the basis of his philosophy working in the USFL under coach George Allen. According to Wiki, George Allen was the coach of the Chicago Blitz back in 1983. Wiki also listed another Allen associated with the Blitz, GM Bruce Allen, go figure right... Here's the article if anyone is interested. http://www.chargers.com/news/article-1/AJ-Smith-talks-draft/75c62678-d14e-43fe-aa14-dabce9f5c85e SFREDSKIN 01-02-2015, 11:29 PM Just read a few articles on AJ's drafting philosophy. If this move goes down Smith needs to put a blue print together. Give the team direction. Figure out what type of team they want to be.They all need to realize that we're in rebuild mode, and not reload mode. I personally don't want to see a free agent spending spree because we're not a few players away. Build your team by drafting well before we go down that road again. He's told way too many people that he does not want to be a defensive coordinator. No, he would not change his mind because he gets along with Smith." Darnit! mooby 01-03-2015, 12:12 PM I voted no but I feel this question is more loaded than a yes or no answer can provide. I trust AJ Smith as far as talent evaluation is concerned, but I don't want him if his duties involve most aspects of a GM position. He always had a knack for getting talent in SD, but I feel he did not do a good job of negotiating in good faith with his talented players. How much of that was budget concerns from people above him I do not know, but I don't want him to be a replacement for Bruce Allen. If we are relying on him solely to evaluate talent I am fine with it. MTK 01-03-2015, 01:33 PM I voted no but I feel this question is more loaded than a yes or no answer can provide. Chico23231 01-03-2015, 02:03 PM I'm good with AJ, but Id still like him to bring in someone else as well. Maybe reshape some structure within the scouting department. Kinda shake it up a lil bit. |
