funandgunner 10-24-2005, 03:21 PM This is a message to all of the redskins fans who seem to find the negatives from the current redskins (even after a 52-17 win - has anyone scored more points this season - against anybody ?)
I understand where all the pessimism and negativity is coming from - it's from the years of disappointment in spite of all your blind support, but it's time to let go all of that. We are now at the beginning of a new era of redskins pride and glory. Do you remember the first time around ? Didn't you miss it during our struggles and disappointment these past decade or so ? But didn't you also take it for granted that the redskins were a sure lock every season to contend in the playoffs and win the superbowl. It was such a great feeling week in week out and no one questioned gibbs - even after a tough loss , and especially after a blowout. When will you start believing in the team again - after the giants win ? after an eagles win ? after a playoff berth? after a superbowl win ?
I guess I understand the loyalties to individual players from before the second gibbs era (ramsey, arrington) because supporting those players was the only positive during the last decade, but it's time to let go and be redskins fans again - by supporting the whole team and not being critical of the coaching staff for what you may feel may be mistakes. Gibbs may not be around too long, so enjoy the redskins now while you can - just think, the redskins can win against any team in the league - that's how far we've come in just one year.
illdefined 10-24-2005, 03:35 PM simply put, Brunell is doing what we saw Ramsey do more of last season and wanted him to do this season. attacking downfield instead of 8yds and to the sideline like Brunell did all of last season.
seems like not many have noticed, but the presence of Santana Moss is what changed the entire character of this team. him getting open and catching every ball has effectively made us a throwing offense. before, you could say it was because we were catching up, but in the 9ers game, where we could do almost anything we wanted, we went to the air ALOT. we're basically throwing now to set up the run.
huge credit to Moss for being who he is and Brunell for consistently getting it there and for all 60 minutes. as a Redskin, something we never saw from him before this season, including pre-season.
joecrisp 10-24-2005, 03:42 PM All excellent points, funandgunner, and I agree wholeheartedly with most of them. However, there will always be room and justification on this board for criticism of the team in any form, particularly now that what is ostensibly the largest Redskins fan site has essentially become a PR tool of the team. As this is a Redskins fan website, there will always be an overwhelming number of supporters versus critics of the team, but many of us shift from one side of that debate to the other, and that makes us no less of a fan than anyone else. In fact, the reason many of us ARE so critical of the team is because we have such a passion for the team.
Even as the team and its fans appear to be headed towards the most successful season in recent memory, there will always be room for improvement, and therefore, criticism. After all, nobody ever achieved success without constantly casting a critical eye upon all their work, whether that work was a success or a failure. Nor would we understand why the team succeeds or fails unless we apply that same critical analysis to every little move they make.
Besides, that's what makes this place so much fun! :biggthump

Point taken, I guess without opposing viewpoints and some criticism this wouldn't much of a site and it would be too much fluff and it would not be interesting. And I guess I'm not used to the negative attitude even during a winning season and what I feel are solid performances this year.

skinsguy 10-24-2005, 05:02 PM All of us, even myself and even during Gibbs 1.0, criticized the team or the coaches for something we couldn't understand they did or did not do. Of course, at the end of the day, the coaches usually proved why they're NFL coaches and why we're mere fans.
All I'm saying is that alot of us were accused of being lead by blind faith and looking at everything through rose colored glasses. Most of us who have remind patient and optimistic basically tried to say..."hey, just wait our day is coming!" Now, it appears that it's starting to come around for us. We're not saying I told you so, but we're just saying that sometimes being patient and allowing one's self to step back and take a look at the big picture can put things in perspective.
firstdown 10-24-2005, 05:18 PM You know when Brunell stayed in the first game after Ramsey went down and did not score a touch down that game. I stayed positive but in the back of my mind I had us losing like 7 of our first 10 and that Campbell would be our starter and new QB of the future. Now I find myself wondering if Brunell can keep this up for a couple of years. Another thing this is great for Campbell to be watching him and learning from such a talented vet. God did I just say that?

Wow that sounds a little bitter Joe :) Are we not all fans of the greatest team in the world from all over the world ?

Aren't you the same person that called me a retard in chat on Sunday for saying we'd get 50+ points? :laughing-
