Problem w/ Cowboys giant screen.Ijaeger 08-24-2009, 07:50 PM I hear you Buster, I would be scared sh*tless the entire time i was playing under that thing, especially after that other calamity that recently happened. Cowboys = joke tryfuhl 08-24-2009, 08:12 PM I really can't kill JJ or Dallas for this -- the screen is well within NFL regulations. It needs to be moved, but the league needs to pay for it and change the rules. I'm sure if you built a fence in your yard that was within homeowners regulations, then they come tell you it's too short -- you're not going to pull up and start over out of your own checkbook. Either make the homeowners association pay for it, or say deal with it. That said, I wish we had a jumbotron that didn't have pixels the size of cars. When you look up it looks like Techmobowl on ours. GO BO GO! HOA only collects money GTripp0012 08-24-2009, 08:21 PM Lechler plays there on Thanksgiving day. He might actually knock the thing out. CRedskinsRule 08-25-2009, 10:20 AM It sounds like if they raise it, like they will for U2, then they have to disconnect it. JJ has said that they will raise it to accomodate U2's stage, and charge U2 2Million dollars, but then lower it again for games. It's not as simple as pressing a button, because once raised the screen does not work. Certainly seems fixable, but one other comment I found interesting was that if it is raised, then JJ's view of it is skewed. I don't know if that is true, but that would be the kicker, if everytime he sat in his perch he was reminded of the punt fiasco. Love it! GMScud 08-25-2009, 10:31 AM The key word there though is smaller screens (ie screens where the teams were probably doing just enough to keep them in their place). This screen is a state of the art type deal and more importantly it's Jerry's baby. I'm pretty sure he's gone above and beyond the call of duty to keep that screen in it's place. Think about how you treat your own HDTV at home and then multiply that by a couple million dollars. Try $40M. I'm no structural engineer, but I imagine that thing is hooked up to a pretty elaborate pulley system. I'm sure it's not dangling like a Christmas ornament (even though that's what it is to Jerrah). I hope you're right though. Speaking of th Colts new stadium posted above, I heard Mike Golic saying this morning that the Colts placed a steel beam at 90 feet and let the team practice under it. Then they let their punter, HUNTER SMITH, punt with it up there...he hit it the majority of the times, so they located the screens/scoreboard on the sides. So you can't just blame the league for approving it...apparently all Jerry Jones needed to avoid this embarrassment is a little common sense that others in the league had. A little research or a single conversation with someone who just completed a nice stadium would've shown that it has been tested and will not work. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3018/2774099367_b5950093d2.jpg Monkeydad 08-25-2009, 11:03 AM It sounds like if they raise it, like they will for U2, then they have to disconnect it. This keeps getting better. I hope the league mandates they just remove it altogether. GMScud 08-25-2009, 11:19 AM I see the NFL Competition Committee has a conference call today to contemplate that crappy contraption. MTK 08-25-2009, 11:20 AM I'll admit the screen looks awesome, but it's a fail on the execution end. It's hilarious to see punts shanking off of it. Monkeydad 08-25-2009, 11:25 AM I'll admit the screen looks awesome, but it's a fail on the execution end. It's hilarious to see punts shanking off of it. It's impressive in size and technology, no doubt, but it probably doesn't look awesome while in the stadium, as I posted before...it has to be a huge distraction when trying to watch the field. It stretches from the 20 to the 20 yard-line, you can't escape it. It's well suited for a Madden tournament, but not really for a live game. It gets in the way visually as well as physically on punts. |
