Defensewins 08-27-2009, 04:54 PM To raise it up for the U2 concert, requires the scoreboard to be disconnected and it will be inoperable at that height. So for Jones, leaving it up at that height is simply not an option on his table.
Of course the height of a scoreboard above a stadium ranks about a 2.0 on my give-a-crapometer to be honest.
If what you are saying is true....I can not believe any multi-purpose arena/stadium would ever design and build a center scoreboard of this size that is this difficult to raise and lower? Also that it can not be operated at another height? That is extremely short sighted and stupid.
The fact that they already (in its very short existence) have to pay to raise it for a concert is proof that they need a height adjustable board in this type of business.
I am an Arena Operations Manger and our HD center board while smaller, has to be height adjustable. We have to adjust the height for every event. Our board is designed to work at any height and it can be lowered all the way down to the floor for repairs or for viewing party's of away playoff games. We could not operate if our board did not move.Wiring is not an issue at all.
Plus boards and components on these screens go out and need fairly regular maintenance and repair. They are going to have to pay huge money to rent lifts to get up there to repair it.
ArtMonkDrillz 08-27-2009, 05:00 PM Actually, I do understand the part about raising it making it in operable. Heck, you move your dvd player in the wrong place and all the wiring gets shot and you have to redo it. I imagine the wiring to maintain the HD image is incredibly complex, as there are xzillion different screens within it. I would imagine that they could have put incremental stopping points and pipe the wires to each of those, but I think Jerry really wanted this controversy. I also think it is set so that he has the perfect view of it from his perch, and he doesn't want to give that up by the 5-10 feet he would need to raise it. Certainly not the 25 feet U2 wants it raised.
I think more than stupid, it is just arrogant, but hey that is the Cowboy way. That's because Jerry knows that if he raises his chin too high all the stitches and staples will pop and the leather mask that is his face will go flying out of his luxury box and onto the field where it will become a banana-peel like obstacle that could end up getting someone hurt. And no one wants that.

Well, almost no one, I personally would scrape up the money for the flight hotel game tickets in seats right below his perch. :)

If Jerry is seeking attention, it worked with me, because I had a bad dream last night in which he was the central character (I kid not).
Now, with the images you've provided, I never want to sleep again. :)

LMAO!
If his staples did pop, would that be a do-over too?

This is Dallas...it's not the first stadium goof. The stupidity is mandated from the top in that organization.
sandtrapjack 08-28-2009, 11:23 AM Its Official, the scoreboard stays put.
Jerry Jones got his way. The 60-yard big screens will stay at 90 feet above the field.
Here's a press release from the NFL regarding the rules if a punt does hit the Jerrytron:
Commissioner ROGER GOODELL notified NFL clubs of a change in rules for the 2009 season relating to the video board over the field at the new Cowboys Stadium but that will also potentially apply in other situations. After consulting with the Competition Committee and NFL staff, the commissioner said the following will be in effect for all remaining preseason, regular season, and postseason games of the 2009 season:
If a ball in play strikes a video board, guide wire, sky cam, or any other object, the ball will be dead immediately, and the down will be replayed at the previous spot.
If there is not an on-field ruling that the ball struck an object, the Replay Assistant is empowered to initiate a booth review, including if the event occurs prior to the two-minute warning. If, prior to the two-minute warning, no booth review is initiated by the Replay Assistant, a coach's challenge is permitted under the customary procedures for such a challenge.
In the event the down is replayed:
(a) The game clock will be reset to the time remaining when the snap occurred.
(b) All penalties will be disregarded, except for personal fouls which will be administered prior to replaying the down.
Rule 3, Section 1 of the Official NFL Playing Rules provides for an official ruling to be implemented "in the interim between the annual rules meeting" that is "official only during the current season." This Official Ruling expires at the conclusion of the 2009 postseason.
"We will continue to address the particular circumstances in Dallas, giving full consideration to the competitive, safety and fan experience issues involved," Commissioner Goodell said. "The Cowboys have been fully cooperative as we have addressed this subject, and we will continue to work closely with the club on a longer term resolution."
I just am flabbergasted at the media hoopla surrounding this.
Everyone wrapped around 1 punt in 1 PRESEASON game by a backup punter and not even considering the other 12 punts in that same game that did NOT touch the scoreboard.
