So Clausen or bust as far as college QBs for you?

(Watching Tim Tebow's game from last weekend now)I don't like McCoy, or Tebow (system guys that don't translate well to NFL IMO). That shoulder of Bradford's has me concerned. I think Clausen could be a franchise type QB, he has the tools, good coaching, plus he seems to have the "it" factor as well. I don't see anyone else coming out that fits the franchise QB mold. I'm not saying we might not find a diamond in the rough later in the draft, but if Clausen is there we should take him and spend the second rounder on OL.

I watched the DVR of the first half of the Eagles last night. First impressions of the first half are that the talent of the OL isn't as much of a problem as the communication and blitz pick-ups. The RBs are at fault too for not picking up free A-gap blitzing LBs. I really think this line shuffling has a lot to do with the problems up front.

Moss was a bit open there too.. and he was past his break

I know that you can't come up with video of every time he actually has, but it'd still be the exception

I'm more impressed with ARE jumping over Moss after the TD.

I'm not sure which two guys you were talking about though

And how does Colt remind you of Shuler?

I'm watching Colt's game from last weekend right now, just watched Snead earlier today. I like Colt's presence more, but Snead has the better arm in my opinion

John David Booty and T. Jackson.

McCoy is a very good college player with lot's of mobility with an average arm. Plus he doesn't play in a conventional NFL offense....just like Heath. IMO he's not going to be able to get under center and make NFL throws week after week, thread the needle in traffic. He's got the mobility, like Heath had but he just doesn't have the NFL pocket game IMO.

If we go with a college QB, Albert and Fletcher will be gone by the time we are competitive

We don't know that for sure, look at Matt Ryan and flacco last yr... Even sanchez is doing decent this yr.. Honestly until zorn and vc are gone it really doesn't matter

I definitely agree on Clausen. I actually prefer McCoy to Tebow overall, but when I see Colt I don't see him as all that much a better option than Chase Daniel quite frankly. I think Zac Robinson and Jevan Snead, two guys I've mentioned in the past, could be good fits in the right situation. Not sure that situation is here though. I'd be happy with either one of them though

Clausen, even though he kind of reminds me of that dude in Remember the Titans (http://images.allmoviephoto.com/2000_Remember_the_Titans/kip_pardue_remember_the_titans_002.jpg) strikes me as a franchise guy.

I don't know much about Robinson, but i'm really not impressed with the QBs in next years draft. They all seem like guys who have alot of potential, but who are not really "NFL-ready." A lot can change between now and April, but there may not be a QB worth taking as high as we'll be drafting.

At this point, we're going to be rebuilding for 2-3 years so we'd be better off trading down and accumulating depth accross our roster instead of adding one spashly player at the top of the first round. From what I read, next years draft is pretty deep overall. I say we take advantage of it and accumulate as many picks in rounds 2-4 as possible.

The problem with this team is there is such a huge, dramatic drop-off between the talent level of our starters and our backups. We need start narrowing that gap.

I agree about Clausen and the "it" factor. It's hard to turn down a franchise QB. There's always risk but the rewards are undeniable. Think Peyton Manning. I also thought that Brady Quinn had "it" so my judgement isn't always the best.

I really think this line shuffling has a lot to do with the problems up front. You and I both see Clausen every week, and my conclusion is that if he returns to ND for another year, and refines his sense of the pocket, continues to develop as a passer (evidenced by completion percentage), he will be a franchise-type prospect for someone. If he comes out this year, well, he's more or less a more accurate version of Matt Stafford, which means he'll be heavily reliant on the situation he's taken into. Which means he would fail here.

He also might have height issues, at roughly six feet out there. Though, truth of the matter is, if he hasn't run into issues in college with his height, he'll probably do just fine in the pros.

The backs have been terrible at pass pro going back to last year. Portis makes it seem a lot better than it really is because the only time you ever really notice the backs is when Portis is sticking someone at the line, but our poor protection has never just been about the front five.

This front five, though, is particularly poor. And it's not for lack of talent. Well, maybe in Will Montgomery's case. But my general opinion is that it's a communication issue in the interior line (which includes the back pickups), and a talent issue on the outside with one on ones with our tackles and their ends.

Not that our tackles are notably terrible players (they are below average), but their ends are just on a different level of accomplishment.
