SBXVII 11-17-2010, 06:20 PM I agree to an extent, although I think Shanahan has already made some pretty big mistakes, and I think Haslett is one of them. He walked into a job with some very good personnel on the defensive side, and this unit has spiraled downhill rapidly. If there's one thing Sunday showed us, the turnovers we were forcing were masking some massive deficiencies. We didn't force a turnover and proceeded to set NFL records for futility.
As a personnel guy, Shanahan wiffed big time on Jamaal Brown and Artis Hicks, and I have no idea WTF he's doing with this whole Lichtensteiger thing. Put some pads back on Dockery please.
I'd like to see Haslett get the boot, and we flat out need a better O-line and pass catchers. I could see us winning maybe 2 or 3 more games this year, but I'd almost rather lose out and end up with the higher pick. I just don't see this team turning it around in 2010.
I can't argue your comment on Brown or Hicks. I'll even go so far as to say Haslett at the time was a confusing interview due to the fact that his stats sucked. When he was named DC I said bad move, but in Haslett's defense do you really think it's all his fault and he should be canned?
People keep jumping on the Haslett needs to go bandwagon and I truly wonder if anyone would have done any better. When Shanahan was hired he already had the decision made to switch to a 3-4 defense. Due to the fact we don't have all the personel to run a 3-4 I think anyone brought in would have done just as bad or good and the same comments would be made about them. I'll agree a good coach looks at his players and uses developed a scheme around their talents and abilities BUT that's not what Shanahan wanted. Shanahan wanted a 3-4 style of defense the whole time knowing the players are mostly 4-3 style of players. I can't fault Haslett for this and don't think he needs to be fired after only 9 games. I honestly don't know what the right time frame should be but atleast give the coaching staff the time to get the right personell brought in before determining that Haslett is a dud. After next season if the defense shows no improvement to the 3-4 scheme then firing Haslett might have more merit.
SmootSmack 11-17-2010, 06:29 PM How many guys are there since Allen? A few, I know he drafted Talib.
Off the top of my head don't know. Most of the starters on offense, save for Freeman and Mike Williams (and I guess Blount) and several of the defensive starters
Allen is not known as a talent evaluator per se, but he has evaluated talent and made the case for players

Well, you've got remember that we're actually using more 4-3 looks this year than we are 3-4. And we still suck.
Dirtbag59 11-17-2010, 08:55 PM With all the change we've had under Snyder, I really can't believe some are advocating for even more change. Can we just get something in place and let it ride for a few years? The constant change is what our main problem has been. Change at QB, change with the coaches, front office, etc.
Amazing that some don't see that, really amazing.
Well in all likelihood Snyders next move if this one fails will be to finally adopt the Leonis philosophy and build a core through the draft. Obviously we're better off then we were under Cerrato, who was obsessed with finding skilled players at the cost of talent in the trenches, but the real test of how effective all these moves are will be next year when McNabb has had a full year in the system.
SirClintonPortis 11-17-2010, 09:51 PM Doug Farrar on Vick:
From start to finish, Vick was a revelation - Shutdown Corner - NFL - Yahoo! Sports (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/From-start-to-finish-Vick-was-a-revelation?urn=nfl-286006)
#56fanatic 11-18-2010, 08:57 AM Well, you've got remember that we're actually using more 4-3 looks this year than we are 3-4. And we still suck.
Why do people keep saying this? I am not seeing more 4-3 looks than 3-4 looks. If we are playing a 4-3 so damn much, then how come our best 4-3 lineman aren't in the damn game. are you counting a LB standing at the end a 4-3 front?? just dont get it. I consistanty see 3-4 fronts, 2 man fronts, and if I ever see that damn 1 man front again i am going to puke.
It was documented a few weeks ago that we've only been in a true 3-4 about 30% of the time. Maybe someone can dig it up. Remember that a 3 man front doesn't always mean we're in a 3-4. There are other sets that use less than 4 DL.
dmek25 11-18-2010, 09:37 AM They're not getting his reps cause they're light & not run stoppers. Daniels has always played well in that regard & can play DT or DE. Sure, he hasn't gotten many sacks since that great game in 05, but he holds his own. Blocked a FG this year & is in on short yardage packages, which this team has been surprisingly solid at.

SmootSmack 11-18-2010, 12:42 PM FINE.... KEEP SHANAHAN BUT GUT THIS TEAM. I've had enough of..Cooley, Moss, Haynesworth, Carter, Hicks, Brown, McNabb, Kemo, Daniels, Rabach, Fletcher, Portis, Sellers, Rogers, Hall, Moore, Hicks, Heyer, Goldston...I'm probably missing some more. What have we won with these guys? NOTHING!
My somewhat educated guess on what will happen with these guys:
Cooley: Trade bait
Moss: Re-signed to a short term deal
Carter: Gone (maybe traded)
Hicks: Back as a reserve
Brown: Back as a starter
McNabb: Back
Heyer: Back as a reserve
Kemo: If he'll take a cut, back as a reserve
Daniels: Back as a reserve, unless he chooses to retire
Rabach: Gone
Fletcher: Back, he needs an heir though
Portis: Back
Sellers: Please be gone
Rogers: Will leave as a free agent
Hall: Back
Moore: They''ll look to replace him
Golston: He'll look to get a big payday, but will be back
over the mountain 11-18-2010, 12:56 PM i hope rogers doesnt go. one of the few competent pieces on D imo. i hope we keep our 1st and 2nd round pick too.
wouldnt it be weird if vick wins MVP and kolb is traded to us to back up mcnabb for 1 year?
