skinsguy 11-16-2010, 09:25 AM I personally think this game told quite a bit about both the Redskins and the Eagles. First, the Eagles are ready to make a Super Bowl run. I think Vick is ready to lead them. The Eagles are loaded with weapons on offense, and the defense is playing well.
As for the Redskins, this game told a lot of ugly truths. Number one, I'm not so sure Jim Haslett is the right guy to be our DC. When Gregg Williams coached our D, he had them swarming to the ball, making tackles, doing the fundamental things right. Haslett has guys missing assignments on a regular basis, being out of position, not making tackles....I understand a lot of that is on the player, but a lot of that is on the coach to correct the fundamental problems so that they don't keep happening. Haslett hasn't been successful doing this. Again, I understand the switching from a 4-3 to a 3-4, but still, these guys are professionals, they should know enough not to ever forget fundamentals.
As for the offense, well, we have no offensive line. Other than Trent Williams, there is no reason why the other guys shouldn't take the first bus out of Washington at season's end. And the thing is, this has been a glaring problem for a few years now and has not been corrected. Joey Galloway is complete trash. At least we do know we have some promising rookies on the offensive side that can come up big for us. Anthony Armstrong is a diamond in the rough and I liked what I saw out of Keiland Williams last night.
So, basically it is as simple as this. On defense, keep Orakpo, Fletcher, and Landry, and send everybody else packing. Offense, keep Trent Williams, send the other offensive lineman packing and make sure Joey Galloway has a ride home as well.
GTripp0012 11-16-2010, 09:25 AM The offense is better than last year. Granted, we're not converting 3rd downs any better, but we are scoring more points.
The main problem is the defense, and it's not from a lack of talent. It's not really any better in any way, unless we consider this 28 point outburst to be a step in the right direction instead of a step backwards. Maybe it is a positive that just appears to be a negative. Who knows? It certainly seems like if it was a worse offense coming in (which it was), then it was worse than that coming out.
The defense has talent, but I think we're playing a lot of the wrong players. We start a number of bad players on our defense, which I think takes a unit that could be strong, and makes it mediocre at best.
I think Haslett deserves the whole season to right the ship because he shouldn't be required to bail out the offense AFTER Shanahan spend all the offseason resources putting his guys on the offensive side. This isn't like last year where Blache had all the shiny new toys and no idea how to use them. Haslett pretty much had to take last year's personnel and win with it. So now it's on him to send the losers on the defense to the bench so guys having great years like Landry, Fletcher, and Alexander can continue to shine without being overshadowed by badness.
If Haslett can't get more out of this unit, he deserves to go. But he also deserves a legitimate chance to get more out of this unit, because outside of Carriker and Kemo on the front, these aren't "his" guys. These are Vinny's guys he's trying to win with.
44ever 11-16-2010, 09:27 AM None of the players you mentioned would have made a huge impact here given the state of the O-line. Until that unit is addressed, we will have a below average offense.
I agree and disagree, Yes the O line SUCKS! But Vick was able to hit his receivers on the run. McNabb may not have the feet he once did but, the guy can still scramble and throw on the run. If we had more dynamic receivers we would have a more dynamic offense.
With that said, You are 100% correct about needing to address the O-line regardless.
hooskins 11-16-2010, 09:28 AM Oline and RB blocking was pathetic last night. McNabb had no time whatsoever. That along with AH quitting is just embarrassing.
Terrible defensive play but you can't cut the cord on Haslett just yet. Remember it's Shanny that wanted the 3-4 and told Haslett to implement it. We still don't have the right personnel but there are times we have seen shimmers of what our D can be.
Just when you start to feel good about what AH was doing, he lays on the ground while Vick scrambles around for 10 minutes. Gotta love it.
Longtimefan 11-16-2010, 09:39 AM I wish it was possible to look at what happened last night and find a few words that would bring about a cure. This team has so many areas of deficiency, we could go on and on for days trying to put them all in some form or perspective.
Someone is eventually going to say something that hasn't already been said multiple times in describing the many things that trouble this team. It dosen't hurt as much though when you bother to keep everything in it's proper perspective from the very beginning.
In the case of MV, it's amazing what success will do for your reputation.
skinsguy 11-16-2010, 09:49 AM I think the long and short of it is, when your team gets trashed by this much, there is something wrong with your team.
Slingin Sammy 33 11-16-2010, 10:08 AM Just when you start to feel good about what AH was doing, he lays on the ground while Vick scrambles around for 10 minutes. Gotta love it.As if the complete @ss -whippin' wasn't bad enough......this PoS takes a nap mid-play.....he must be moved in the off-season for whatever we can get for him, effort like that is a cancer to a team.
SolidSnake84 11-16-2010, 10:10 AM Too many problems to boot:
No Offensive Line...it is absolute trash, and worse than Zorn's OL last year. Trent Williams is the only bright spot.
Defense: Jim Haslett has been a shit coach here. He needs fired at year's end.
WR: Joey Galloway is over the hill, and Moss isn't the same #1 that he used to be.
RB: We need someone good behind Torain/Williams.
QB: We have regressed, if anythign since week 1.
firstdown 11-16-2010, 10:16 AM i have seriously been a hard core fan for like 25 years if not for this message board and the cool folks on it I would have jumped ship in the last 3 years.
I feel like this team has no future it is just so F--ked.
I was born in Fairfax but grew up in RI (where all my family is). My dad latched o nto the skins when we lived in Fairfax we are talking 1973. So I basically cheer for all NE teams expect the Pats. The Pats are looking really good right now.
