My last post doesn't sound very exciting, but in recent history- a successful offseason is made with a great draft, the resigning of key players, and underrated, quiet free agency with relatively inexpensive deals.

warriorzpath 03-04-2013, 05:40 PM My last post doesn't sound very exciting, but in recent history- a successful offseason is made with a great draft, the resigning of key players, and underrated, quiet free agency with relatively inexpensive deals. warriorzpath 03-04-2013, 05:51 PM It rarely works out when your free agency signings get the most attention. Especially if you sign a top free agent. warriorzpath 03-04-2013, 05:57 PM My strategy with the top player in free agency is - DON'T sign him. Here's some recent examples: Mario Williams, asomough, Haynesworth. T.O.Killa 03-04-2013, 07:10 PM I say be patient with free agency this year and wait until after the draft to sign a veteran safety, cornerback, and right tackle - unless there is a player that is under the radar that you can get with a very good deal early on. They need to at least sign a quality veteran cb and veteran ot because there seems to be a number of them with starting experience - especially at cb. The 2nd round pick should be focused on the best safety in the draft unless there is an immediate impact player that drops down to them. That would be my strategy with needs and free agency. Draft first then fa because of the redskins cap situation this year and the depth in the draft and fa. Yeah this sounds like a great idea. We will end up with Madeu Williams, Stepfan Hyer, and Fred smoot. warriorzpath 03-04-2013, 07:34 PM Yeah this sounds like a great idea. We will end up with Madeu Williams, Stepfan Hyer, and Fred smoot. Or Cyprien, Ryan Harris, and a veteran cb with starting experience like Routt, mike Jenkins, Tracy porter, Adam jones, or better- who by the way are 3 near the bottom of the list of free agent cornerbacks. They could get a number of guys that could be solid starters and also get tyrann matheiu or another cb in the 3rd round in the draft. Skinzman 03-04-2013, 08:02 PM Yeah this sounds like a great idea. We will end up with Madeu Williams, Stepfan Hyer, and Fred smoot. When a specific position is strong in the draft, usually there are cuts of some pretty good players at those positions. They might not happen until TC, but they will most likely happen. Never rush to overpay a vet in FA when the position is strong in the draft unless that one vet is a perfect fit/must have for your team. If you think the only RT's and safeties that are going to be decent FA's are already on the market, then you are mistaken. I expect enough good safeties to be cut heading into or out of TC that M. Williams will be an after thought even if we dont look immediately in FA for a safety. Thrown in that the skins were a playoff team last year, and some of those last minute cuts will take the a very low salary to be given a chance at a starting job and a trip to the playoffs. That wasnt something we could look forward to in the past. warriorzpath 03-04-2013, 08:43 PM Yeah this sounds like a great idea. We will end up with Madeu Williams, Stepfan Hyer, and Fred smoot. You must've put a lot of thought into this post, considering that you misspelled 2 of these players' names(Stepfan???), only listed former (signed) redskins players- and one who hasn't played since 2009. What was the purpose of this post? ... to try to provide the most minimum effort into a reply??? T.O.Killa 03-04-2013, 09:06 PM You must've put a lot of thought into this post, considering that you misspelled 2 of these players' names(Stepfan???), only listed former (signed) redskins players- and one who hasn't played since 2009. What was the purpose of this post? ... to try to provide the most minimum effort into a reply??? Thats the thing, they will be guys that you wont even know how to spell their names. What you really meant is wait until the dust settles and then sign guys like Cedric Griffin a week or two into free agency. If you wait till after the draft you will have to get lucky. Not how you want to run your team. The Redskins will make a move for guys like Greg Toler, Keenan Lewis, and Chris Clemons. They are not as strapped as you think. CultBrennan59 03-04-2013, 09:46 PM Schefter saying that goldson isn't coming back to San Fran. If they're getting rid of him, then there must be something wrong with him/ he's a system player. warriorzpath 03-04-2013, 10:32 PM Thats the thing, they will be guys that you wont even know how to spell their names. Not how you want to run your team. The Redskins will make a move for guys like Greg Toler, Keenan Lewis, and Chris Clemons. They are not as strapped as you think. The redskins ARE cap-strapped. They are around 3 million over and haven't even re-signed any of their own several free-agents yet. And on top of that they need to sign their draft picks. There's been a number of $13 million thrown out there that they need to free up by restructuring existing contracts or by cuts - just to achieve this. All of this before even thinking about signing free agents that are coming from other teams. So that's $13 million plus the cap-hit this year for any additional free agents that they would want to sign. |
