Or re-sign/extend contracts of the guys we want to keep. Like Trent Williams and Ryan Kerrigan need to done and it will lower their 2015cap number to boot. Win/win.

Win/win. irish 02-09-2015, 07:47 AM Lay low, build up through the draft and make a real long term commitment to it for once. Absolutely! Its the way long term success is built in the NFL. KI Skins Fan 02-09-2015, 08:10 AM I don't see anything wrong with signing good, young Free Agents as part of the build plan. One of the main things we've done wrong in FA is to sign players who are too old and too expensive. There are FA's who could help us who are as young as 25 years old. These younger FA's have proven that they can play in the NFL and they can still be developed to become even better players. We've just been plagued by a bad Front Office for many years. They've made many poor decisions in both the draft and in FA. We haven't been any better in drafting than we've been in FA. I think that our FO needs to do a better job of evaluating all types of players. I also don't believe it's been proven that the path to success is to go exclusively with the draft. As far as I know, all NFL teams sign FA's. I recall that when SM was introduced he said that he would use FA. I expect him to do so judiciously. irish 02-09-2015, 08:44 AM I don't see anything wrong with signing good, young Free Agents as part of the build plan. I dont think anyone is saying to go exclusively with the draft. Successful teams build 90% through the draft and then fill in a hole or two with FAs that can put them over the top. The Skins have so many holes that building through the draft is a must. Time to be honest, we have used picks in the draft along the lines, none have panned outside of Silverback. Thats bad front office, bad coaching and bad scouting. I told folks last year to get Flowers when he was stupidly released. Flowers perdictably went on to play on at a high level, Chiefs defense went on to play like garbage. I concur with all three of those notions. FRPLG 02-09-2015, 10:54 AM Two good drafts and some smart value shopping in FA could have us in a whole new world by the end of '16 season. Forget spending a bunch of money in FA. Do a good job drafting and save money to sign the good players you drafted and developed. |
