Well this article seems to tell the real story...
Washington Redskins to keep Robert Griffin III as backup QB (http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/13587791/washington-redskins-keep-robert-griffin-iii-backup-qb)
- - - Although Kirk Cousinswas named Washington's starting quarterback earlier this week, Redskins owner Daniel Snyder and president Bruce Allen want to keep Griffin despite the financial risk associated with retaining the former Heisman Trophy winner, a source told ESPN.- - -
I'm starting to think that Bruce Allen is a yes man.. If I just want to hear my own opinion, I don't need to spend that kind of money to do it..

@JsteelznSkins
RG3 may in fact make it through the weekend. But he will not be a Redskin when the season starts. Working trade. Falls through?? Cut
This guy is definitely in the know. This is what I expected a smart GM to do.

McCloughan IMO is doing a good job at being the voice of reason in this whole RG3 situation. He is not going to get rid of RG3 without getting something in return (like Jay would). And he's definitely doing a good job at convincing Snyder to move on from RG3.

Why not keep RGIII till the trade deadline in October? Wait for teams QB's to get hurt and maybe someone will bite and give something in return.

Allen, and particularly Snyder, want to hold on to RG3? That sounds familiar
Anyhow, I know Redskins have been talking to some teams but I don't know how serious the talks have been. Still feel some team will step up, only takes one.
If Griffin hasn't been cleared to play yet, and the Skins release him, aren't they potentially on the hook for this years salary and next years $16M ?

Well they can't release him until cleared, and if they do they'd be-I believe-off the hook if another team claims him
