70Chip 07-07-2007, 12:45 PM I just paid my water bill. Now, water is the most basic of human needs, so if healthcare is a "right" and should be "paid for by the government" ("free" to the less economically astute among us) then surely water should be as well. Ditto food, heat, and in certain areas AC (we can't have grandma falling over from heatstroke). Sex is a basic human need or "right". I expect Hillary to do something about that as soon as she is elected. Well, not her personally, but perhaps a voucher for the Bunny Ranch or something. Those greedy prostitutes, making money off of a basic human necessity. Down with hos and HMOs. And these constant Bear attacks. I am so sick of these constant Bear attacks.
jsarno 07-07-2007, 12:52 PM yeah..but...have you SEEN any of his movies?
I did see Columbine (forgot the actual name) and farenheit 911, both I saw for free cause my friend had it...I would never give money to that jackass. There is no doubt he has no intentions of helping people. He is more interested in twisting things and making a slew of money. But hey, if you want to give money away to see lies and a person twist issues, more power to you.

LOL...that's a great post!
BigSKINBauer 07-07-2007, 01:27 PM actually this is the best of all of his films that i've seen, Fahrenheit and columbine. I went to it last weekend and it got a lot of applause at the end. Moore is a very talented film maker and most people leave with an outlook of change.

Healthcare isn't a right but rather a basic service that a government aught to provide to it's citizens. As for your water bill, look at how much it costs you compared to other services you pay for. It's heavily subsidized by your locale. Of course nothing is ever for free, you pay for everything either via your own pocket or through taxes. So that subsidized water bill, you're paying the cost of it via the likes of property tax.
As for hos, I'm with you on that :). I dream of a day where I can say "I want sex right now, holding out on me is a violation of my civil rights."
Also, if something isn't a right can we infer that it's a privilege?
GusFrerotte 07-07-2007, 10:59 PM I am what you call a paleo conservative, but with this proto fascist thing we have going on between the Federal govt and big Pharm, you can't but help to agree somewhat with the left on the health care issue. With my company, the only health care plan offered that was any good was the one offered to single folks like me. The folks with kids were stuck with a substandard plan that would still stick it to them bigtime in terms of pay taken out of the weekely paychecks. When 70% more women in America are dying in childbirth than in Europe, something is not right when we have the supposedly #1 health care system in the world.

I don't get the point of this comment, cause our healthcare system requires immediate medical attention for those in immediate danger. So are you saying our doctors are inferior to the doctors in Europe?
What do you feel is the main reason that allegedly 70% more woman in America are dying in childbirth than in Europe?
dmek25 07-08-2007, 10:05 PM i love it how republicans spew the hatred towards Moore for making movies strictly for the money. but yet the oil companies gouge us everyday, and its their right to maintain as big of a profit as they seem.

Difference there is the government can't stop free enterprise. The government will never stop businesses from making a profit unless it's a monopoly, but since all the oil companies are together, that won't happen. You're asking the government to go against what the USA stands for. Not going to happen.
We don't like the fact that the oil companies are showing record profits anymore than you do, but there is only one way to stop it! Stop it at the source. The more of us that stop using the black crack, the easier it would be to create alternative fuels. Everyone bitches about the gas prices, well what are you doing to fix it? Not only are they showing record profit, but we're showing record demand for the stuff. It's supply and demand. I for one use my motorcycle more, I'm trying my part.

How is making a profitable film not free-enterprise? That's why I never understood the complaint that Michael Moore makes money off his films. If free enterprise is the most perfect system and a film maker is succesful within that system, what's the problem?
